Here he produced wire, and successfully used anthracite coal in iron-puddling. In 1845 he removed his works to Trenton, where they grew in time into an extensive establishment, with subsidiary furnaces in other places. For many years he employed over two thousand five hundred workmen. During his business career he invented a number of useful devices.
