This book was released on 2022-05-18 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welfare states around the globe are changing, challenged by the development of knowledge economies. In many countries, policy-makers' main response has been to modernize welfare states by focusing on future-oriented social investment policies that focus on creating, mobilizing, and preserving human skills and capabilities. Yet, there is massive variance in the development of social investment strategies. The World Politics of Social Investment: Political Dynamics of Reform is the second of two volumes of the World Politics of Social Investment (WOPSI) project, which systematically maps and explains different welfare reform strategies in democratic countries around the world. This volume traces the development of social investment reforms across the regions of Nordic, Continental, and Southern Europe, as well as Central and Eastern Europe, North and Latin America, and North East Asia. The chapters in this volume study the impact of different structural drivers for social investment (e.g., demographic, poverty, demand for skill, or lack of an available workforce), the salience of social investment in the public debates, and the different political coalitions that led to or prevented the adoption of social investment strategies. The chapters are written by leading social policy scholars from different world regions. They all apply a joint theoretical framework (developed in the first of the two volumes) to explain the politics of social investment in a range of contexts and policy fields. Jointly with the first volume, the WOPSI project offers the first worldwide analysis of social investment reforms around the globe.
Book Synopsis Migration and Social Protection in Europe and Beyond (Volume 1) by : Jean-Michel Lafleur

This book was released on 2020-10-30 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first open access book in a series of three volumes provides an in-depth analysis of social protection policies that EU Member States make accessible to resident nationals, non-resident nationals and non-national residents. In doing so, it discusses different scenarios in which the interplay between nationality and residence could lead to inequalities of access to welfare. Each chapter maps the eligibility conditions for accessing social benefits, by paying particular attention to the social entitlements that migrants can claim in host countries and/or export from home countries. The book also identifies and compares recent trends of access to welfare entitlements across five policy areas: health care, unemployment, family benefits, pensions, and guaranteed minimum resources. As such this book is a valuable read to researchers, policy makers, government employees and NGO’s.

Download or read book Labour Law written by Andrzej Świątkowski and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this monograph on the Council of Europe not only describes and analyses the legal aspects of labour relations, but also examines labour relations practices and developing trends. It provides a survey of the subject that is both usefully brief and sufficiently detailed to answer most questions likely to arise in any pertinent legal setting. Both individual and collective labour relations are covered in ample detail, with attention to such underlying and pervasive factors as employment contracts, suspension of the contracts, dismissal laws and covenant of non-competition, as well as international private law. The author describes all important details of the law governing hours and wages, benefits, intellectual property implications, trade union activity, employers’ associations, workers’ participation, collective bargaining, industrial disputes, and much more. Building on a clear overview of labour law and labour relations, the book offers practical guidance on which sound preliminary decisions may be based. It will find a ready readership among lawyers representing parties with interests in the Council of Europe, and academics and researchers will appreciate its value in the study of comparative trends in laws affecting labour and labour relations.
Book Synopsis Comparative Administrative Law by : Ieva Deviatnikovaitė
Download or read book Comparative Administrative Law written by Ieva Deviatnikovaitė and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-05-20 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the origins, doctrine, institutions, and challenges confronting modern administrative law in Central and Eastern European countries. Administrative law was first defined by a Polish lawyer in the 19th century, but for historical reasons, there has been little scholarship on the subject in relation to countries in the region in recent times. This book fills this gap in the literature. It examines the roots and structure of administrative law in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Slovak Republic, and Ukraine. Each chapter examines the key concepts including historical background, the system of administrative law, the civil service, the spectrum of administrative activity, judicial review and other types of control over public administration, and administrative liability. The impact of European Union law on the legal order of the countries is also reviewed. The book will be of interest to students, academics, and researchers working in the areas of administrative law, public law, comparative law, and legal history.

This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2013 Article IV Consultation highlights that following a sharp downturn in 2009 in the context of the global economic and financial crisis, Slovakia emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in the European Union, supported in particular by substantial foreign investment in the auto sector and subsequent exports. Growth slowed to 2 percent in 2012 as the impact of exceptionally large investments in 2011 faded. Inflation fell to 1.6 percent in June 2013, and record trade and current account surpluses were recorded in 2012. For 2013, the growth forecast is 0.6 percent, reflecting especially the weakening external environment.
