Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prison or also known as The Correctional Facility is not always about dreary and scary things. Many creative works have been produced from behind the walls; the delicious bakeries, high artsy painting, even garment products with export quality. All of those works are produced by prisoners, or also known as the inmates. The products that are made by the inmates, brings many stories behind it, from bitter till touching story. Through those productive activities, they changed the sorrow into hope to get a second chance to bring their life back into society. Through this book, Evy Amir Syamsudin reflected on her experiences to guide the inmates and her vision to humanize them. “Made in Prison is more than the documentation of a practical way to help prison inmates to reintegrate into society. It is a testament to a compassionate Indonesian society—a way to look at its people, even those who have made mistakes, with love and appreciation.” —Mr. Michele Zaccheo, Chief of United Nations Television & Radio “The goodness can be worked anywhere. Made in Prison talks about how goodness and love also happened in The Correctional Facility. As Mother Theresa said, we can do small things with great love.” —Rosianna Silalahi, Kompas TV News Director

Book Synopsis Holloway Prison by : Hilary Beauchamp
Download or read book Holloway Prison written by Hilary Beauchamp and published by Waterside Press. This book was released on 2010-09-14 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compelling, true life account of her time working in this famous north-London prison. Hilary Beauchamp lifts the lid on life inside, making the book a must for students of womens imprisonment or prison education. A unique and telling insight into life in a claustrophobic and sometimes violent atmosphere. An ideal primer on womens issues within the penal system. With 8 colour pages of original artwork. Reviews 'Describing the work of the Education Department of Britains biggest prison for women is a daunting task in itself. Hilary Beauchamp has excelled and captured the very essence and spirit of this exasperating, contradictory, bi-polar afflicted enterprise. Succesful teaching in prisons has always depended on exceptionally dedicated and gifted teachers and on these criteria Hilary is in a class of her own. Reading her book reveals just how well deserved was her MBE - a George Cross for sheer bravery would also have been appropriate!': Erlend Lee, former HoD Education, HMP Holloway. 'A valued social contribution to recent studies in applied criminology and a work which all researchers and students should read and critically appreciate, especially if they have not been involved hitherto in 'the sharp end' of things... makes good reading for a wide market: from law students and social workers, to teachers and all involved in socially useful work where Hilary Beauchamp has certainly picked up the vibes of what we do as part of the criminal justice process as lawyers': Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers 'After reading this book one is reminded of comments by Joan Bakewell. In 2006 she called for the majority of women prisoners to be released from Holloway on the premise that most of them were not violent criminals and needed emotional support or psychological help rather than detention': Camden New Journal 'An excellent text ... Hilary Beauchamp writes wonderfully, vividly and honestly': Ben Whittaker, former barrister, MP and Government Minister. 'I have enormous admiration for Hilary Beauchamp and this book is a fascinating contribution in a field which has not been widely covered ... She has a longstanding track record of quality projects . . . someone of total integrity': Lord David Puttnam, film director. 'Artists are lucky poets, composers or painters because rather than commit murder they can produce a work of art on the subject instead': Maggi Hambling, artist (from the Foreword). Author Hilary Beauchamp was awarded an MBE in 1992 for her teaching work at Holloway Prison and in September 2008 she won the ITV London Teacher of the Year Award. Some examples of her artwork - both originals and prints - can be purchased at hilarybeauchamp.com

Book Synopsis English Siege and Prison Writings by : Pramod K. Nayar
Download or read book English Siege and Prison Writings written by Pramod K. Nayar and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together an unusual collection of British captivity writings — composed during and after imprisonment and in conditions of siege. Writings from the ‘Mutiny’ of 1857 are well known, but there exists a vast body of texts, from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Burma, and the Indian subcontinent, that have rarely been compiled or examined. From Robert Knox’s 17th-century account of imprisonment in Sri Lanka, through J. Z. Holwell’s famous account of the ‘Black Hole’ of Calcutta, through Florentia Sale’s Afghan memoir, and Lady Inglis’ ‘Mutiny’ diary from Lucknow, the book opens up a dark and revealing corner of the colonial archive.

Book Synopsis Prison Shakespeare by : Rob Pensalfini
Download or read book Prison Shakespeare written by Rob Pensalfini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-26 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the development of the global phenomenon of Prison Shakespeare, from its emergence in the 1980s to the present day. It provides a succinct history of the phenomenon and its spread before going on to explore one case study the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble's (Australia) Shakespeare Prison Project in detail. The book then analyses the phenomenon from a number of perspectives, and evaluates a number of claims made about the outcomes of such programs, particularly as they relate to offender health and behaviour. Unlike previous works on the topic, which are largely individual case studies, this book focuses not only on Prison Shakespeare's impact on the prisoners who directly participate, but also on prison culture and on broader social attitudes towards both prisoners and Shakespeare.
Book Synopsis Welsh prisoners in the prison estate by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Welsh Affairs Committee
Download or read book Welsh prisoners in the prison estate written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Welsh Affairs Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2007-06-06 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Committee undertook this inquiry to address concerns about the imprisonment of Welsh prisoners outside Wales. At present there are only four prisons in Wales, all in the South, and there is little provision for juveniles and no prisons for women. The overcrowding means that Welsh prisoners have a reduced chance of serving their sentence near home and reduces the chances of successful resettlement on release. The Committee believe there should be new prison places in North Wales, separate provision for young offenders and a new approach to women prisoners along the lines suggested by Baroness Corston. The report also address concerns about support services for mental illness amongst prisoners, the amount of Welsh language provision and education services.
