This book was released on 2020-06-01 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The SSF Guidelines recognize the right of fishers and fishworkers, acting both individually and collectively, to improve their livelihoods through value chains, post-harvest operations and trade. To achieve this, the Guidelines recommend building capacity of individuals, strengthening organizations and empowering women; reducing post-harvest losses and adding value to small-scale fisheries production; and facilitating sustainable trade and equitable market access. This document includes nine studies showcasing applied practices and successful initiatives in support of enhancing small-scale fisheries value chains, post-harvest operations and trade, based on the recommendations contained in the SSF Guidelines. Cases presented have been chosen on the basis that they can be emulated elsewhere by small-scale fishery proponents including, but not limited to, national administrations, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, private enterprises, development agencies and intergovernmental bodies. An analysis of enabling conditions as well as related challenges and opportunities are discussed in each case. The document supports the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – specifically SDG 14.b: “provide access for small-scale artisanal fishers to marine resources and markets”; and SDG 2.3: “by 2030 double the agricultural productivity and the incomes of small-scale food producers, particularly women, indigenous peoples, family farmers, pastoralists and fishers, including through secure and equal access to land, other productive resources and inputs, knowledge, financial services, markets and opportunities for value addition and non-farm employment”.

Book excerpt: Madagascar is a land where lizards scream and monkey-like lemurs sing songs of inexpressible beauty. KKnown as the Great Red Island, it is a place where fossa and tenrecs, vangas and aye ayes thrive in a true 'Lost World' alongside bizarre plants like the octopus tree and the three-cornered palm. And where the ancestors of the Malagasy, as the island's 18 tribes are collectively known, come alive in rollicking ceremonies known as "turning the bones." This natural and cultural history of Madagascar is an exploration of what makes the island so extraordinary. It is the only book that combines cutting-edge science and conservation with adventure travel and historical narrative. Perfect for those about to travel to Madagascar for the first time or just want to learn more, much of the historical material will be new to those familiar with Madagascar, even researchers who have worked there for years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feather mite family Eustathiidae Oudemans is a presumably monophyletic group of ectoparasites restricted to swifts & crested swifts (Apodiformes: Apodidae & Hemiprocnidae). The mites occur in tandem between the barbs of the primary regimes of the wings of field-collected birds & museum skins. Discrete spatial relations exist between the pop¿s. of different mite species when these co-occur on an individual bird. The secondaries, tertiaries, coverts, & retrices of the tail provide loci of infestations in such instances. This study establishes a classification & describes the morphology & host-parasite assoc. of the Eustathiidae. All taxa are (re)described, keys are provided for the determination of genera & species, & host-parasite assoc. are cross-listed. Illus.
