This book was released on 2015-05-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In their book, Eating Isn't Always Easy, pediatric psychologist Nancy S. Rotter, PhD and gastroenterologist Qian Yuan, MD, PhD, explored the journey of a young child with eosinophilic esophagitis and provided an engaging story that children and parents dealing with similar issues could relate to. Now the authors return with a second book, geared toward slightly older children aged six through eight. Like their previous title, Macaroni Isn't the Same Without Cheese features a main character with EoE as he deals with the medical testing, dietary restrictions, and the everyday ins and outs of life with this illness. Seven-year-old Danny enjoys playing video games, spending time with his friends and family, and exploring the woods behind his house. He also enjoys hamburgers, pizza, and ice cream. But while others around him seem to eat anything they want, Danny isn't able to enjoy some of his favorite foods anymore. He has a condition called eosinophilic esophagitis, or EoE, which causes certain foods to irritate his esophagus and make him feel sick. For Danny, those foods include dairy, peanuts, and potatoes-but it took a long time, and a lot of tests, to figure that out. Starting when he was a baby, Danny always had trouble eating food. He would often choke, gag, and throw up, and he had difficulty gaining weight. This made his parents very worried. So when he was almost four, his parents brought him to see a stomach doctor-also known as a gastroenterologist-to try and figure out why. He had a test called an endoscopy, or "scope," so Dr. Rubin could see inside of his body. After finding out about his EoE, Danny met even more doctors. There is Dr. Anderson, an allergist, who does tests to find out if he has any food allergies-and Dr. Sweet, a psychologist, who has an office full of toys and art supplies, who he can talk to about his feelings about his EoE, elimination diets. or anything at all. Living with EoE isn't always easy. Sometimes it makes him sad or angry. Macaroni isn't the same without cheese, and he sometimes misses being able to eat the same foods as everyone else. But the good news is, Danny doesn't feel sick all the time like he used to. He can still explore the woods behind his house, and he can still play soccer and video games. He's even met some new friends who follow special diets too. Featuring colorful illustrations and relatable, child-friendly language, Macaroni Isn't the Same Without Cheese is a realistic look at the life of a second grader with eosinophilic esophagitis throughout the diagnosis and treatment process. While addressing the real-life frustrations and obstacles familiar to children and caretakers dealing with EoE and food allergies, it also provides a message of hope-letting children know that they aren't alone in their disorder, and can still live a happy life and enjoy all their favorite activities with the help of support from their families and medical professionals.

Jessica Seinfeld isn’t a committed vegan. Her husband and her children aren’t, either. Instead of convincing you to become vegan or shaming you for eating meat, she simply wants to show you how easy it is to be a vegan, at times, by cooking flavorful, affordable, and robust plant-based meals whenever you want—whether that’s every day, once a week, or just once in a while. With her reassuring and accessible style, Jessica shows you step-by-step recipes for sweet and savory breakfasts, comforting and healthy meals for lunch and dinner, delicious snacks that can be whipped together quickly, and essential sauces and dressings—all tailored to home cooks. She also demonstrates how to create a basic vegan pantry filled with the essential items to keep in stock, explains what kitchen equipment you’ll want to have on hand, gives sample menus for combining recipes, and tells relatable stories from her adventures in vegan cooking with her family. Simple, affordable, and comforting, and infused with Jessica’s “encouraging attitude” (Publishers Weekly), Vegan, at Times is the perfect gateway to a healthier and more balanced you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sumptuous cookery book and the definitive guide to the life, times and tastes of the world's favourite Victorian cook Mrs Crocombe. As seen on English Heritage's The Victorian Way YouTube series. Mrs Crocombe is the star of English Heritage's wildly popular YouTube series, The Victorian Way. In delightful contrast to the high-octane hijinks of many YouTube celebrities, The Victorian Way offers viewers a gentle glimpse into a simpler time - an age when tea was sipped from porcelain, not from plastic cups; when mince pies were meaty and nothing was wasted; when puddings were in their pomp and no kitchen was complete without a cupboard full of copper pots and pans. Avis Crocombe really did exist. She was head cook at Audley End House in Essex from about 1878 to 1884. Although only a little is known about her life, her handwritten cookery book was passed down through her family for generations and rediscovered by a distant relative in 2009. It's a remarkable read, and from the familiar (ginger beer, custard and Christmas cake) to the fantastical (roast swan, preserved lettuce and fried tongue sandwiches), her recipes give us a wonderful window into a world of flavour from 140 years ago. How to Cook the Victorian Way is the definitive guide to the life, times and tastes of the world's favourite Victorian cook. The beautifully photographed book features fully tested and modernised recipes along with a transcription of Avis's original manuscript, plus insights into daily life at Audley End by Dr Annie Gray and Dr Andrew Hann, and a foreword by the face of Mrs Crocombe, Kathy Hipperson. It showcases the best recipes from Mrs Crocombe's own book, alongside others of the time, brought together so that every reader can put on their own Victorian meal. It's a moreish smorgasbord of social history an absolute must for fans, foodies and anyone with an appetite for the past. Please note this is a fixed-format ebook with colour images and may not be well-suited for older e-readers.

Book excerpt: How many great ideas begin with a nagging thought in the middle of the night that should disappear by morning, but doesn’t? For Daniel Shumski, it was: Will it waffle? Hundreds of hours, countless messes, and 53 perfected recipes later, that answer is a resounding: Yes, it will! Steak? Yes! Pizza? Yes! Apple pie? Emphatically yes. And that’s the beauty of being a waffle iron chef—waffling food other than waffles is not just a novelty but an innovation that leads to a great end product, all while giving the cook the bonus pleasure of doing something cool, fun, and vaguely nerdy (or giving a reluctant eater—your child, say—a great reason to dig in). Waffled bacon reaches perfect crispness without burned edges, cooks super fast in the two-sided heat source, and leaves behind just the right amount of fat to waffle some eggs. Waffled Sweet Potato Gnocchi, Pressed Potato and Cheese Pierogi, and Waffled Meatballs all end up with dimples just right for trapping their delicious sauces. A waffle iron turns leftover mac ’n’ cheese into Revitalized Macaroni and Cheese, which is like a decadent version of a grilled cheese sandwich with its golden, buttery, slightly crisp exterior and soft, melty, cheesy interior.

Ever since he can remember, his two sisters and his parents eat whatever they want, whenever they want, and they seem to be fine. But not Ben. When he eats, he often has stomach aches, experiences gagging, and worse yet, he vomits. It seems to him that eating is not a very fun thing at all. Then he is diagnosed with a condition that is hard to pronounce, but the doctor says it's good that they know what it is so that she can help Ben learn to manage his illness. After his endoscopy shows that Ben has EoE, he and his doctor--a gastroenterologist--work together as detectives to solve the mystery of what foods are causing his EoE symptoms. But Ben is worried, not to mention frustrated and sad about all of the problems his disease is causing. Being placed on a special elemental diet, in which he gets his nutrition primarily from drinking something called Splash, isn't nearly as fun or tasty as eating. Soon enough, Ben is able to gradually add food back into his diet. Sometimes he has to eliminate foods based on the findings of his regular endoscopies, and though it is frustrating, he is sure that they will figure it out soon. Eventually, he and his doctor solve the mystery and he is able to avoid eating these foods and remain healthy.
