Whether expressing divine inspiration, creating fabulous beasts or, in the case of herbals, reproducing naturalistic images of plants, the lettering and alphabets featured in this fabulous book will introduce the reader to a world of fantasy and the delight of copying - even surpassing - the originals. Decorated Lettering describes how to copy motifs and experiment with form and colour. At the end of each chapter the themes discussed are illustrated by alphabets or specimen illuminations. Book Synopsis The Marine and the Flower Child by : Dale McInerney
Download or read book The Marine and the Flower Child written by Dale McInerney and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Marine and the Flower Child By: Dale McInerney, with Michael (Mac) McInerney The story of a Marine overseas and his girl back home in New York. Their letters encompass a first handlook at the Vietnam War and the love forged during a year apart. MAC: “Everything I’ve ever done -whether it was a mistake or a great success - I’ll stand up to - all my letters are a part of me - I don’t care who sees them - you can print them in the NY Times if you want - and I’ll say yup - I sure did say that!” Dale: “Pretty soon there’ll be no room for clothes in the drawer where I keep your letters. Ruby said I should make them into a book. So I got a loose leaf folder and titled it ‘Letters from Mac - July 1968’. I’ll start another for August. The mailman was funny, handing me your letter today he said, “Why don’t you marry this guy, it would save an awful lot of postage.” MAC: “Today has been one of those long days - DaNang started to get hit - the VC are still rocketing and mortaring the city and surrounding installations. When I was on the flight deck, I could hear and see the explosions. Then we started to take medevacs aboard the ship hospital.” Dale: “As long as you are honest with me about what you’re doing in Nam, I’ll rest a lot easier. I believe there is basic reason at work in the universe, we met at that specific time, to make sure both of us knew that we had a reason for staying alive. We are going to stay together.” MAC: “I must have started six letters without getting past the second line. After a year apart I have nothing left to say - and everything to say. I know, for both of us - we’re tired of missing each other - tired of living in the past and the future - it takes the life right out of me - and having you involved in all of this - tears me apart. But loving you fills me with more happiness than I ever dreamed possible.”

Book Synopsis Friend Is a Four-Letter Word by : Marva Bush
Download or read book Friend Is a Four-Letter Word written by Marva Bush and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-02 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever employed the world's oldest dumping line, "Can't we still be friends?" just to take the sting off a breakup? Or worse, have you ever had it used on you? Be honest. It didn't make you feel any better, did it? If you answered no, then you'll agree that, sometimes, the word friend can be a heartbreaker. That is the subject of Friend is a Four-Letter Word. It is a contemporary romantic comedy centered on Kate, a woman on the brink of madness in her attempt to navigate her way through relationships in the twenty-first century. Picture a woman watching Fatal Attraction with a room full of happily married couples. Kate not only breaks into tears, but shamelessly asks the hostess for a tissue after witnessing the scene in which Glenn Close dies. (She was so misunderstood.) Friend is a Four-Letter Word takes an amusing look at the ever-blurring line between love, friendship and total insanity.
Book Synopsis 150 Years of Eastern Oregon History by : Joseph H. Labadie
Download or read book 150 Years of Eastern Oregon History written by Joseph H. Labadie and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-25 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a real story about an ordinary family from Albia, Iowa, who in 1862 crossed the Oregon Trail and settled in the lower Powder River Valley in what today is Baker City, Oregon. Within two years, family members were part of a thriving dry-goods and mercantile business in the gold-mining town of Mormon Basin, selling rubber boots, shovels, and liquor to both American and Chinese miners. By the late 1860s, the easy gold had been panned and sluiced out so the miners moved on to chase bigger dreams in newer places. So too did some of the family members; they sold their business interests and with a saddlebag full of gold rode north to Umatilla County, Oregon, where in 1871 they started a ranch and cattle business. Portions of James Shumway’s Couse Creek Ranch near Milton-Freewater are still owned by descendants; it is an Oregon State Centennial Ranch. This book uses old photographs, letters, documents, business journals, personal diaries, and contemporary research to recount 150 years of Barton–Shumway family history in eastern Oregon. It is a story told through the lives of some of the real people who survived it.
