This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heavy metals contamination is an environmental problem at Army installations engaged in firearms training and munitions production. Weathering and corrosion of expended munitions and leaching from wastewater lagoons, landfills and bum pits, has resulted in heavy metals contamination of the soil at these facilities. Transport of metals to the groundwater has been confirmed in some locations, requiring treatment of the groundwater at the site. Certain treatment processes for contaminated soil produce metals laden extracts, which also require treatment before reuse or disposal. Low cost sorbents with a high affinity for metals that can be disposed after use may provide an economic alternative to ion exchange and activated carbon. Metals sorption capacity is reported in the literature for a variety of natural materials and industrial byproducts. This information is useful in identifying potentially useful sorbents, but is limited to the specific conditions studied. Of primary interest are those sorbents with a demonstrated affinity for the metals of interest, that are inexpensive and readily available, and that require no modification prior to use. A field ready sorption technology for treatment of metals-contaminated water and waste streams was the principal objective of this work unit.

This book was released on 2007 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project studies the application of high-silica zeolites for the removal of polar organic contaminants, i.e., antimicrobial compounds and the fuel additive methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), from drinking water. Recently published data show that high-silica zeolites, a class of crystalline adsorbents with well defined pore sizes, exhibit considerably larger single-solute MTBE adsorption capacities than activated carbons and carbonaceous resins. The effectiveness of high-silica zeolites is compared to that of activated carbons and a carbonaceous resin.

This book was released on 2021-03-22 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2016 in the subject Chemistry - Analytical Chemistry, grade: 82.5, Gujarat University, course: Chemistry, language: English, abstract: The aim of this research was to synthesize and study batch properties of zeolite synthesized from Bagasse fly ash and its derived zeolitic material. To achieve this, a study was carried out with the following objectives. To synthesize zeolites from Bagasse fly ash solution via microwave assisted hydrothermal synthesis process. To study the effect of adding electrolyte and electrolyte with sodium silicate to BFA solution towards the development of zeolitic material. To investigate the effects of adding sodium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide plus sodium meta silicate for activation of BFA. To examine the structural characteristic of the synthetic zeolite produced (i.e. morphology, physico-chemical and phases identification) via XRF, SEM, FTIR, PXRD, TGA, BET and BJH and to evaluate the sorption capacity of the synthesized zeolitic material using aqueous solution of aromatic compounds Researchers in science and engineering have increased interest in finding low-cost adsorbents such as industrial sludge waste, biomass, husk, slag, carbon slurry, bagasse fly ash (BFA), etc. to remove inorganic and organic pollutants from wastewater. There are many researcher results which were done on BFA for the removal of pesticide, dye, phenol etc but during survey of literature no research work is done on the removal of aniline, nitrobenzene and para nitroaniline using BFA and its derived zeolitic materials. Zeolites are aluminosilicates crystalline materials which contain pores and cavities of molecular dimensions. Many occur as natural minerals, but it is the synthetic varieties which are among the most widely used sorbents.

It is followed by in-depth case studies involving FCC, hydrocracking and light naphtha isomerization. Also, an entire chapter is devoted to the often-overlooked subject of base oils.In the area of petrochemicals, the processing of aromatics and olefins is described and special attention is paid to the synergy between catalysis and separation on molecular sieves.
Book Synopsis Zeolites as Catalysts, Sorbents and Detergent Builders by : H.G. Karge
Download or read book Zeolites as Catalysts, Sorbents and Detergent Builders written by H.G. Karge and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1989-05-01 with total page 897 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book will be welcomed by companies involved in catalysis and catalyst manufacturing, sorbent and detergent production, chemical and petroleum refining, and by research scientists in academia. It contains 76 original contributions of recent work on fundamental and technological aspects of zeolite research and application. Particular attention is paid to novel developments in zeolite catalysis, sorption on zeolites and use of zeolites as detergent builders. Problems of zeolite synthesis, structure, modification, ion exchange, diffusion and novel applications are also dealt with. Topics which are the subject of much current interest are also treated, e.g. new catalytic applications of zeolites in the synthesis of fine chemicals, novel formulations of detergent builders and industrially developed zeolite-based separation processes. The application of zeolites is also discussed from both economic and ecological points of view. The contributions cover a wide range of materials and results which are organised, to a large extent, in tables and figures and are identified by appropriate keywords. The meeting at which these contributions were presented was the latest in a series of smaller, more specialized zeolite meetings which are held in between the large International Zeolite Conferences. Participating in the symposium were experts from both industry and academia who gave invited lectures, oral and poster presentations. The resulting book provides a large body of helpful information for present and future work and development in zeolite research and applications.
Book Synopsis New Developments in Adsorption/Separation of Small Molecules by Zeolites by : Susana Valencia
Download or read book New Developments in Adsorption/Separation of Small Molecules by Zeolites written by Susana Valencia and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume compiles and discusses the fundamental and multidisciplinary knowledge on adsorption and separation processes using zeolites as adsorbents. Over the last decade, a large amount of research has been carried out for the development of zeolites as adsorbents. However, there is still a growing interest to increase the understanding of such selective adsorbents. Therefore, synthesis strategies and new approaches for developing new selective zeolite adsorbents for gas separation are presented in the first chapter. In addition, a chapter focused on adsorption characterization techniques of microporous materials is included. This will be helpful for advanced readers, since the new IUPAC recommendations for microporous characterization are not still widely employed by the zeolite community. Experimental and theoretical aspects of economically and environmentally relevant separations, which have been successfully carried out with zeolites, are discussed in detail in subsequent chapters. Finally, industrial zeolite based adsorption and separation processes as well as current perspectives for new zeolite based separations, and improvements of current technologies are presented.

Book Synopsis Design and Development of Low Cost Adsorbents by : Girdhar Joshi
Download or read book Design and Development of Low Cost Adsorbents written by Girdhar Joshi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clean and pure water is one of the implicit requisites for a healthy human population. However the growing industrialization and extensive use of chemicals for various concerns, has increased the burden of unwanted pollutants in the drinking water of developing countries like India. The entry of potentially hazardous substances into the biota has been magnifying day by day. In the absence of a possible stoppage of these, otherwise, useful chemicals, the only way to maintain safer water bodies is to develop efficient purifying technologies. One such immensely beneficial procedure that has been in use is that of purification of water using 'adsorbents'. Indigenous minerals and natural plants products have potential for removing many pollutants viz. fluoride, arsenic, nitrate, heavy metals, pesticides as well as tri-halomethanes. Adsorbents which are derived from carbon, alumina, zeolite, clay minerals, iron ores, industrial by products, and natural products viz. parts of the plants, herbs and algal biomass offer promising potential of removal of these pollutants with greater adsorbing efficiencies.
