Book excerpt: This is a collection of poems from between 1970 and 1988, selected while Glenn was living in the hills outside of Kyogle on the north coast of New South Wales. The poems were written on stray scraps of paper and dated. Glenn revisited the collection in 2006 and added stories about what was happening around the time the poems were written. He wasn't trying to interpret, just to offer a context where he thought it was illuminating. Between love and armour there is poise, and afterwards there is the stillness where all things are possible.

Book excerpt: From the winner of the ACT Book of the year Award for his first book, The River, comes this celebration of the Australian seascape, from its natural grandeur to the quirky individualism of those who live beside it. It is also the heartfelt and pertinent story of the issues facing our coast today and the resilience of communities at a turning point. Chris Hammer travels the length of the east coast of Australia on a journey of discovery and reflection, from the Torres Strait to Tasmania; from an island whose beach has been lost forever to the humbling optimism of the survivors of Cyclone yasi; from the showy beaches of Sydney to a beautiful village that endures despite the loss of its fishing fleet. This is a relevant, satisfying and highly readable book, imbued with a sense of optimism and humour. Even as new economic imperatives emerge and the shift in our climate becomes apparent, we can revel in the heritage and character of our shores, reminding us why the coast is so important to all of us.

These books were written over an extended period: between the late '80s and 1998 for Book One and in 2005-2006 for Book Two. Book One: Over the Next Hill is the story of my life from my birth in Adria, Italy, to 1997 when our family left far north Queensland to find a home in New South Wales. The book relates the story of my childhood dreams and troubles, my travels and my struggle to find the meaning of my life. Book Two: Courage and Hope tells the story of our life in Lismore, both as parents and as a couple whose children have left home. Having achieved some of the purposes related in Book One: Over the Next Hill, I relate what happens in our family and how I came to terms with many of the questions of my youth.

Book excerpt: This book tells the story of Terania Creek – the world’s first direct action blockade in defence of a forest, occurring in Australia in 1979. Contrary to claims that the Australian counterculture was a mere imitation of overseas models, the Australian movement, coalescing with a home-grown environment movement, came of age at Terania Creek. After five years of ‘polite’ campaigning failed to stop the logging of ancient Gondwanan rainforest, an organic and spontaneous blockade erupted that would see the forging of a number of ingenious blockading techniques and strategies. The activist repertoire developed at Terania Creek has since echoed across the country, and across the Earth. This book draws on extensive oral history interviews as well as photographs taken of the protest in 1979; such rich source material brings the story to life. Terania Creek and the Forging of Modern Environmental Activism will therefore appeal to both a scholarly audience as well as activists, practitioners, and counterculturalists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lifes Fight, Loves Might is a controversial true story about Lorna, a courageous determined Australian woman whose life was ravaged by the betrayal of her family, her employers, the Christian church, the judicial system and sanctioned abuse by the state and federal governments. Lorna stood alone against the world thats until she meets Rod, a surfie who sweeps her off her feet. Unfortunately, their fervent love also feels the smack of betrayal, which nearly destroys them both, but ultimately they stand united with trust, love and loyalty. When Rod enlists, Lorna becomes an excellent army wife. She learns how to compromise, because the army must come first. She becomes independent and resourceful while her soldier is away, supporting him all the way up the ranks to Warrant Office. Rods postings take Lorna and their two children to Sydney, Papua New Guinea, Canberra and Melbourne. Lorna finds each posting is fraught with its own kind of agony, with Papua New Guinea being the worst of all. She survives unbelievable traumas, which befall her and her family. Then she faces the failures of the Australian Defence Force and the Department of Veterans Affairs. To the Australian people these two systems appear to be functioning at an optimum for the serving members of the ADF, veterans and their families respectively, but it only appears that they are. Lorna also gives accounts of how the leadership within the Christian community believes it is above the law of the land, and how the judicial system aides the churchs betrayal of trust. In the end, Lornas resilience and strength wins through to overcome the impossible, leading her to write this inspiring book.

Book excerpt: While postpartum depression has become a recognizable condition, this is the first book to treat root causes of mommy brain, baby blues, and other symptoms that leave mothers feeling exhausted. Any woman who has read What to Expect When You're Expecting needs a copy of The Postnatal Depletion Cure. Filled with trustworthy advice, protocols for successful recovery, and written by a compassionate expert in women's health, this book is a guide to help any mother restore her energy, replenish her body, and reclaim her sense of self. Most mothers have experienced pain, forgetfulness, indecision, low energy levels, moodiness, or some form of baby brain. And it's no wonder: The process of growing a baby depletes a mother's body in substantial ways--on average, a mother's brain shrinks 5% during pregnancy, and the placenta saps her of essential nutrients that she needs to be healthy and contented. But with postnatal care ending after 6 weeks, most women never learn how to rebuild their strength and care for their bodies after childbirth. As a result, they can suffer from the effects of depletion for many years, without knowing what's wrong as well as getting the support and treatments that they need.

Book excerpt: After completing Love in Nimbin and Lust in Nimbin in 2017, I knew that I would continue writing poetry and finish 2018 with enough material to publish another anthology in the Love and Lust in Nimbin series. I was living in my double decker bus, Atlantis in a paddock just outside of Nimbin. I went swimming in Mulgum Creek to bathe one morning. I covered myself in ground volcanic mud to clean my skin and was sitting in the sun letting it dry when I was visited by Djanbung (the platypus) who swam right up to my foot and then proceeded to feed from the algae in the fast flowing cascade. I got down into the cascading stream behind it and floated just one metre behind it holding the rocks to stop me being washed downstream. All the time, Djanbung was blissfully unaware that I even existed and he kept feeding and swimming upstream with me just behind him.I'd been told by a friend in January 2017 on Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island) that I had "Seahorse Medicine" and in 2018 after this visit from Djanbung, I began writing many pieces of poetry about and from the perspective of animals so I think that it is fitting that this anthology is titled "Djanbung's Peaceful Protest in Nimbin"
