Book excerpt: It starts with the breakdown; twenty years together. It ends breaking free, into new life. Poet Tamara Mendelson charts her divorce cycle in Divorce Poetry: Breaking Free, A Soul-Healing Journey Through the Five Stages of Divorce. She shares her raw emotions and bitter truths learned, such as the meaning of "forever". From breaking down to breaking free, each of the five sections includes poetry intended for people going through their own emotional tidal waves. Mendelson never expected to divorce. What was to last forever, lasted seventeen years. Rather than settling for a loveless marriage, she made the decision to leave. Luckily for readers, she reengaged life with poetry as part of her healing process, and has discovered that others have suffered like she did. Here she presents readers with her book of verse, expressing how to be with and endure their pain to find peace. Much light is found at the end of her journey, and with each poem, she helps readers find their own.

Book excerpt: Voted one of the five best poetry collections for 2012 by Publishers Weekly, Animal Eye employs pastoral motifs to engage a discourse on life and love, as Coal Hill Review states "It is as if a scientist is at work in the basement of the museum of natural history, building a diorama of an entire ecosystem via words. She seem snot only interested in using the natural world as a metaphoric lens in her poems but is set on building them item by item into natural worlds themselves."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2000 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,0, University of Hamburg (FB Anglistik), course: Seminar II, 8 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: As the title suggests, this term paper deals with the topic of loss and separation in poetry. The texts which have been chosen as relevant material are the poems "THE BREAK AWAY " by Anne Sexton, "SHE IS AWAY" by Kenneth Rexroth and "RIVER ROAD" by Stanley Kunitz1. These three poems center around the same problem but they differ not only in the perspective of the lyrical I2 but also in certain stylistic devices. It is the aim of this term paper to point some of these differences out and to describe the concept of loss and separation, i.e.: how loss and separation are perceived in each case by the lyrical I. In this context it should be mentioned that not all relevant elements of each poem can be taken into consideration- doing so would go beyond the scope of this term paper3. Consequently, the main idea is to present some basic ideas. In some cases it will be necessary to look at certain parts of a poem in great detail. There will also be some autobiographical references to the lives of the authors - mainly to Anne Sexton and Kenneth Rexroth as only very few material has been available about Stanley Kunitz. In doing so the reader must be aware of the fact that the poems do surely not present totally autobiographical experiences- nevertheless it seems to be quite impossible to strictly keep these out of them.
