Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: This thesis studies the stochastic behaviour of interest rates and commodity prices, extending the existing literature by allowing the underlying state variable to capture any possible seasonal or cyclical behaviour. In the first chapter, we propose a new model for the term structure of interest rates assuming that the instantaneous spot rate converges to a cyclical long-term level characterized by a Fourier series. Under this framework, we derive analytical expressions for the valuation of bonds and several interest rate derivative assets. The second chapter introduces a new square-root model for the yield curve where both the mean reversion level and the volatility are described by a harmonic oscillator. This model specification incorporates a good deal of flexibility preserving the analytical tractability. In the final chapter, we present a model for the logarithm of the commodity spot price with a reversion to a time dependent long-run level described by a Fourier series, obtaining closed-form expressions for a wide range of derivatives and study the fitting performance to market data.

Book excerpt: The social and political changes of this era have created a climate change and fundamental shift in how businesses view the impact of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in the workplace. It is essential to understand how leaders make significant, sustainable changes utilizing communication abilities, envisioning, conflict management skills, and innovative DEIB initiatives. However, leaders must be careful not to rely on anecdotal evidence as it does not always reflect DEIB realities. Implementing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Management in Organizational Change Initiatives analyzes how leaders implement DEIB organizational change initiatives. It provides an interdisciplinary perspective of how issues and challenges pertaining to DEIB management affect organization performance. Covering topics such as inclusive organizational identity, socio-intercultural entrepreneurship, and supplier diversity programs, this book is an indispensable resource for business leaders, managers, entrepreneurs, academic administration, students and educators of higher education, government officials, researchers, and academicians.

Book excerpt: This book studies the measurement and the determinants of systemic risk, paying special attention to the role of the Credit Default Swaps (CDSs) either as financial instruments containing valuable information about the soundness of the reference institutions or as a market whose distress contributes to potential systemic shocks on the economy. The measurement of systemic risk is addressed from two perspectives, aggregate and individual contribution to systemic risk where the former refers to the level of systemic risk in the overall economy and the latter to the individual contribution of each financial institution to the overall systemic risk. The analysis of the determinants of the individual contribution of financial institutions to systemic risk focuses on the effect of their portfolio holdings of derivatives. Finally, this thesis studies the liquidity commonalities and their determinants in the corporate CDS worldwide markets. The main participants in these markets are systemically important financial institutions (SIFIs) and so abrupt changes in the market liquidity could cause systemic shocks on the overall economy and, as a consequence, could have adverse effects on global stability.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the importance of the entrepreneurial university, specifically in relation to the creation of entrepreneurial ideas and attitudes in students and entrepreneurial initiatives in academic institutions. The aim of the editors and contributing authors is to provide the reader with a set of experiences illustrating the advantages of communicating and encouraging entrepreneurship among students, thereby highlighting the “third mission” of the university: the need to adopt entrepreneurial strategy without disrupting the quality of teaching and research. Featuring initiatives from institutions around the world, the authors argue that the increasing importance of knowledge in the technical and social dimensions of today’s world provides greater relevance to the entrepreneurial university. In this context, universities transcend their traditional focus on teaching and basic research to carry out technology transfers, marketing ideas, and patent registrations, and incorporate spin-off companies that contribute to industrial innovations, economic growth, and job creation. In the teaching dimension, the entrepreneurial university represents a focus on programs which train students in the applications and most advanced practices in knowledge-driven fields. The book addresses such questions as: Can marketing ideas deteriorate the quality of research in the long term? What importance does the cultural framework have for an entrepreneurial education? What circumstances and programs facilitate spin-offs in universities What are the key features of entrepreneurial universities? In reference to entrepreneurship education in its broadest sense, then, it corresponds to the framework of ideas and general features on which entrepreneurship is founded: in-depth knowledge of the projects or ventures which they wish to carry out, capacity to perceive the relevant characteristics of the environment, and the leadership and goal setting skills to achieve success.
