Book excerpt: Did the miracles of God stop centuries ago? I do not believe that is the case. I am convinced that he is still positively and powerfully intervening in the lives of those that love him. Many people believe that God is cloaked in mystery far, far away. But the bible says that God is near to those who love him. And, I believe that the bible, his Holy Spirit, and the works of his creation all provide ample confirmation that it is his desire that we truly know him. I believe that God is still miraculously intervening in the lives of his creation. But my beliefs are substantially deeper than that. I believe that God's interventions come with a level of predictability. I do not believe in random acts of thunderstorms, nor random acts of showers of blessings.

It seems, however, that our society has waged an all-out assault on miracles and their relevance. Today, biblical miracles are brushed aside as mere superstition or myth, while God is dismissed as unnecessary. Is there really a wonder-working God? Prayer is a powerful thing. It is a two-way conversation between a holy God and those He has chosen to redeem. Prayer is not powerful because of the words we choose, nor based upon the amount of faith that we possess, but because we serve an awesome God, who is able to step into our natural world and work miracles on our behalf. So, the question is not whether there is a God, but rather how big is your God? Our faith is literally stitched together by God's miraculous power.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Lee Strobel trains his investigative sights on the hot-button question: is it really credible to believe God intervenes supernaturally in people's lives today? This provocative book starts with an unlikely interview in which America's foremost skeptic builds a seemingly persuasive case against the miraculous. But then Strobel travels the country to quiz scholars to see whether they can offer solid answers to atheist objections. Along the way, he encounters astounding accounts of healings and other phenomena that simply cannot be explained away by naturalistic causes. The book features the results of exclusive new scientific polling that shows miracle accounts are much more common than people think. What's more, Strobel delves into the most controversial question of all: what about miracles that don't happen? If God can intervene in the world, why doesn't he do it more often to relieve suffering? Many American Christians are embarrassed by the supernatural, not wanting to look odd or extreme to their neighbors. Yet, The Case for Miracles shows not only that the miraculous is possible, but that God still does intervene in our world in awe-inspiring ways. Here’s a unique book that examines all sides of this issue and comes away with a passionate defense for God's divine action in lives today. Also available: The Case for Miracles Spanish edition, kids' edition, and student edition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In chapter one the reader is introduced to several key characters of the novel, as well as The Parlor itself. Immediately there is a relationship established between Mario, Michael, and Rita. There are co-workers, friends and comrades. Ron is introduced as the owner of the facility, while he is a friend of the initial characters; he is not a part of their antics. The author also introduces a few of the regular clients. Mrs. Manning, a "well-to-do" elderly alcoholic, Lorna Silvers, an up and coming politicians wife and Rhoda Katz. Rhoda is a reporter who seems to have opted to take a more Machiavellian approach to life. The first chapter establishes a tension between the three friends and another co-worker, James Baker. A prank carried out against James in The Parlor creates a situation where the chapter ends with a scene that allows the reader to see that James is possibly not well-balanced and even a bit deviant. This particular scene creates suspicion throughout the first half of the novel while the reader wonders if James indeed has limits.

Book excerpt: The willingness of people to believe in magical icons, mystical relics, and miraculous pictures (like the Image of Guadalupe) is almost as curious as these phenomena themselves. Though they cry out for scientific investigation, millions of people blindly accept them as fact. Historical and paranormal investigator Joe Nickell confronts such strange events, powers, and objects as the Shroud of Turin, bleeding or weeping statues, burning handprints, liquefying blood, ecstatic visions, miraculous cures, and people speaking in tongues in Looking for a Miracle. Departing from standard critiques of religion, Nickell carefully investigates the evidence relating to specific claims. Religious believers and rationalists alike have much to learn from this revealing examination of the evidence for the miraculous.

Book excerpt: You Believe God Can Still Do Miracles, But How Do You Know Which Stories Are True? A blind man suddenly sees. A lame man gets up and walks. A little boy is raised from the dead. You believe the biblical accounts that these miracles happened, but do you believe eye-witness reports that miracles still happen today? Between shady faith-healers, weeping madonnas, and gimmicks like holy land water, it's difficult--even foolish--to believe every miracle account we hear. So how do we discount the fakes without missing out on the real miracles in the process? Award-winning journalist Tim Stafford shares captivating stories of modern-day miracles, wrestling over what is credible and what isn't. But more than that, he offers wisdom and insight to help you figure out the role miracles should play in your faith. Should you expect miracles? Ignore them? Pray for them? How active is God in the world today? And could he be more active in your own life? Learn how to explore these questions with wisdom and honesty, growing your faith and hope along the way. "Tim Stafford puts the right person at the center of miracle stories: not the charismatic leader through whom miracles come, nor the person who is healed, but God himself. This book will help you see genuine miracles as part of God's way of telling his own story, and will teach you to listen for what God is saying through them."--David Neff, Editor in Chief, Christianity Today "Veteran journalist reports on the world of miracles with neither skepticism nor naiveté but with clarity and reverent honesty. A remarkable achievement."--Eugene H. Peterson, Professor Emeritus of Spiritual Theology, Regent College, Vancouver, B.C. "Do you want to believe in miracles but have been put off either by Christians who insist that every problem should be solved by a miracle, or by the skepticism of God's miraculous intervention in human experience? Then this is your book! As a journalist, Stafford squarely faces and differentiates between actual occurrences of miracles and disappointing non-occurrences; as a Christian, he makes a conscious effort to be faithful to God's revelation in Scripture. The result is a book that will instruct you on how to think biblically about issues relating to miracles. The summary statements in the last two chapters alone are worth the price of the book."--Ajith Fernando, Teaching Director, Youth for Christ, Sri Lanka "Tim Stafford dives headfirst into this investigation of those special events we call miracles--signs and wonders that demonstrate God's supernatural power. Probing, clarifying, and speaking to skeptics and believers alike, Stafford is thoroughly convincing as he digs deep to comment on biblical and contemporary examples."--Lucy Shaw, author, Breath for the Bones, What the Light Was Like "Tim has taken one of the most important and fascinating topics in the world and written about it with honesty, faith, and grace. His look at miracles through history and across cultures is full of wisdom and longing. This book--if not actually miraculous itself--is at least providential."--John Ortberg, senior pastor of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church and author of Who Is This Man? "When I started reading this fine book, I was what Tim Stafford labels a "Semi-Believing Doubter" on the subject of present-day miracles. I no longer wear that label. Miracles is a gripping--and convincing--account of how God continues to astonish us with signs of a power that will someday come into its fullness!"--Richard J. Mouw, PhD, President and Professor of Christian Philosophy, Fuller Theological Seminary

Jakes, bestselling author of Destiny In a remarkable true story of faith and blessings, a mother tells of her sickly young daughter, how she survived a dangerous accident, her visit to Heaven and the inexplicable disappearance of the symptoms of her chronic disease. Annabel Beam spent most of her childhood in and out of hospitals with a rare and incurable digestive disorder that prevented her from ever living a normal, healthy life. One sunny day when she was able to go outside and play with her sisters, she fell three stories headfirst inside an old, hollowed-out tree, a fall that may well have caused death or paralysis. Implausibly, she survived without a scratch. While unconscious inside the tree, with rescue workers struggling to get to her, she visited heaven. After being released from the hospital, she defied science and was inexplicably cured of her chronic ailment. Miracles from Heaven will change how we look at the world around us and reinforce our belief in God and the afterlife.

Book excerpt: Are you tapping into the miracles that God promised you? This book will change my perspective of God to see that no matter what the enemy or the world throws at me, He has given me thousands of promises to overcome these obstacles. For forty-five years, Larry and Tiz Huch have been teaching believers how to access the promises God has given in His Word. They have shared keys for activating, receiving, and releasing miracles, and taught principles of faith and prayer to help believers reach God's great destiny for their lives. But in the last three years, the Huchs have gained an even deeper revelation of how to overcome the enemy's attacks and access God's promises as they walked through two life-altering traumas--and two life-altering victories. Both Tiz Huch and the Huchs' seven-month-old grandson, Lion, were diagnosed with aggressive forms of cancer and faced grim prognoses. But God had the last word! In Miracles by the Moment, pastors Larry and Tiz Huch share their journey through one of the most challenging seasons of their lives and how they walked out, moment by moment, the foundational principles of prayer and faith they've lived by and taught for years. Drawing lessons from the Huchs' journey as well as others who walked through different circumstances, this book offers hope and encouragement for those facing various types of challenges--in their families, marriages, finances, careers, or health. Sometimes breakthrough comes in the form of one giant miracle. More often, it comes in the form of thousands of small miracles that add up to huge breakthroughs! We don't have to beg God to help and bless us. He already has! This book will teach readers what God promises us and the steps they can take to enter into those promises.
