Book Synopsis Manufacturing Cells by : David J Williams
Download or read book Manufacturing Cells written by David J Williams and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manufacturing Cells: Control, Programming and Integration presents the issues surrounding the integration of manufacturing cells and small manufacturing systems. This book provides a variety of topics, including generally applicable cell controllers, cell management, and cell control. Organized into eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of the methods that allow the effective and fast integration of manufacturing devices into automated manufacturing cells. This text then describes the cell controller as being one element of a computer-integrated management system. Other chapters consider the innovative approach to the design, implementation, and integration of cell controllers in a manufacturing system. This book discusses as well the cell management language, which is a powerful computing environment for building complex manufacturing systems. The final chapter deals with the methods for describing the real-time, decision-making logic that is needed to control manufacturing cells. This book is a valuable resource for manufacturing engineers, managers, and supervisors.

Book Synopsis Modeling, Simulation, And Control Of Flexible Manufacturing Systems: A Petri Net Approach by : Kurapati Venkatesh
Download or read book Modeling, Simulation, And Control Of Flexible Manufacturing Systems: A Petri Net Approach written by Kurapati Venkatesh and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-01-29 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One critical barrier leading to successful implementation of flexible manufacturing and related automated systems is the ever-increasing complexity of their modeling, analysis, simulation, and control. Research and development over the last three decades has provided new theory and graphical tools based on Petri nets and related concepts for the design of such systems. The purpose of this book is to introduce a set of Petri-net-based tools and methods to address a variety of problems associated with the design and implementation of flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs), with several implementation examples. There are three ways this book will directly benefit readers. First, the book will allow engineers and managers who are responsible for the design and implementation of modern manufacturing systems to evaluate Petri nets for applications in their work. Second, it will provide sufficient breadth and depth to allow development of Petri-net-based industrial applications. Third, it will allow the basic Petri net material to be taught to industrial practitioners, students, and academic researchers much more efficiently. This will foster further research and applications of Petri nets in aiding the successful implementation of advanced manufacturing systems.

Book Synopsis Flexible Manufacturing Systems by : G. Bruno
Download or read book Flexible Manufacturing Systems written by G. Bruno and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexible manufacturing systems consist of an heterogeneous collection of different devices such as machine tools, programmable logic units, robots, and computers. The efficient organization of the system depends on the integration level of these different elements. This paper discusses the use of MODIAC (Modular Integrated System for Automation and Process Control), the Local Area Network developed within the Computer Science Project sponsored by the Italian National Research Council, as an efficient solution for implementing a computer-integrated manufacturing cell. Advanced communication methodologies that rely on Local Area Network Technology as the interconnection structure for the cell components are also discussed.
Book Synopsis Distributed Computer Control Systems 1986 by : K.D. Muller
Download or read book Distributed Computer Control Systems 1986 written by K.D. Muller and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This seventh IFAC workshop on distributed control systems (DCCS) discusses the ideas of real-time synchronization and data consistency in industry, with emphasis on the Manufacturing Automation Protocol (MAP). The volume also debates the gulf between the computer scientist's approach to language and the needs of the application programmer. In addition to treating relevant topics, each session has an introductory paper and a panel discussion, to give a complete picture of the progress and research in this computer field today.

This book was released on 2008-01-22 with total page 886 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decision support systems have experienced a marked increase in attention and importance over the past 25 years. The aim of this book is to survey the decision support system (DSS) field – covering both developed territory and emergent frontiers. It will give the reader a clear understanding of fundamental DSS concepts, methods, technologies, trends, and issues. It will serve as a basic reference work for DSS research, practice, and instruction. To achieve these goals, the book has been designed according to a ten-part structure, divided in two volumes with chapters authored by well-known, well-versed scholars and practitioners from the DSS community.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is about automation - automation in design, automation in manufacturing, and automation in production. Automation is essen tial for increased productivity of quality products at reduced costs. That even partial or piecemeal automation of a production facility can deliver dramatic improvements in productivity has been amply demon strated in many a real-life situation. Hence, currently, great ef forts are being devoted to research and development of general as well special methodologies of and tools for automation. This volume re ports on some of these methodologies and tools. In general terms, methodologies for automation can be divided into two groups. There are situations where a process, whether open-loop or closed-loop, is fairly clearly understood. In such a situation, it is possible to create a mathematical model and to prescribe a mathe matical procedure to optimize the output. If such mathematical models and procedures are computationally tractable, we call the correspond ing automation - algorithmic or parametric programming. There is, however, a second set of situations which include process es that are not well understood and the available mathematical models are only approximate and discrete. While there are others for which mathematical procedures are so complex and disjoint that they are computationally intractable. These are the situations for which heuristics are quite suitable for automation. We choose to call such automation, knowledge-based automation or heuristic programming.

Book excerpt: Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) is the computerized handling of integrated business processes among all different functions in an enterprise. The consistent application of information technology, along with modern manufacturing techniques and new organizational procedures, opens up great potential for speeding up processes. This book discusses the current state of applications and new demands arising from the integration principle. It mainly emphasizes on strategies for realization and implementation based on the author's concrete experience. The "Y-CIM information management" model is presented as a procedural method for implementing CIM. The third edition has been supplemented by up-to-date specified examples of applied CIM solutions and transfer strategies.
