Book excerpt: This book is a history, an indictment, a lament, and an appeal, focusing on the messianic trend in Lubavitch hasidism. It records the shattering of one of Judaism's core beliefs and the remarkable equanimity with which the standard-bearers of Orthodoxy have allowed it to happen. This is a development of striking importance for the history of religions, and it is an earthquake in the history of Judaism. David Berger describes the unfolding of this historic phenomenon and proposes a strategy to contain it.

Book excerpt: Maimonides' well-known 13 principles of faith includes the statement: "I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Mashiach. Even if he delays, I will wait every day for him to come." What does it mean to "wait every day?" Going to the primary source, Maimonides' Mishneh Torah, this book assembles selected translations alongside the vocalized Hebrew text and presents them together with five discourses of the Lubavitcher Rebbe that illuminate these chapters. The discourses deal with the function of Mashiach, the nature of the Biblical sources that foretell the Redemption, prophecies concerning Mashiach, and an explanation of "the ultimate good of the era of the Redemption."

Book excerpt: People around the world have been praying for the coming of the Messiah, known as the Moshiach in Hebrew. Lori Michelle, God's Moshiach, has been hiding in plain sight for over 10 years. Are you ready? Blindsided by Messiah is an understatement. The shocking revelation that everyone who believes in the coming of the Messiah must come to grips with is that the Messiah was ALWAYS going to be a woman. Unthinkable! An ordinary Jewish mother born and raised in America, now living in Israel is your Messiah. For everyone who desires world peace, this book is a must read. The world is in chaos and the prophecies from the Bible are true. These are the End of Days and this is everyone's final opportunity to accept personal responsibility and work for world peace. We are heading directly into the final world war, the war of Gog and Magog. We must all get ready in a hurry. Blindsided by Messiah chronicles the entire awakening of the final Moshiach. Lori Michelle reveals explanations, revelations and prophecy given to her directly from God Himself. She asks tough questions, reveals the source of our problems, and then explains how we are all expected to come together to heal our world. Blindsided by Messiah answers many confounding questions: - Why is the final Messiah a woman? - Did the two Messiah's written about in prophecy come? If so, who were they? - Was Yeshua ben Yosef (Jesus) the Messiah? Where is Yeshua now? - What is the God-inspired plan to heal humanity? - Will the World to Come (Olam Haba) be physical or non-physical? Who will be welcomed? These are just a few of many mind-boggling questions answered in this book. After reading Blindsided by Messiah you will likely feel the full gamut of human emotions. The question you must answer in the end - will you take decisive action and do what is required of you to save our world? All the children of the world depend upon you to answer this question with a resounding YES!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his lifetime, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of blessed memory, was a highly successful religious leader. His brilliant scholarship and eloquent speaking touched hundreds of thousands of people. Larger than life and presiding in a post-Holocaust world during which Jews returned to the land of Israel in an unprecedented fashion, he was declared by many of his followers to be the Moshiach (Messiah) for whom Jews have waited for thousands of years. His death in 1994 should have dashed those hopes. However, many of his followers have advanced the position that even today the Rebbe can still be Moshiach. This book is an analysis of this position within the Jewish tradition. What do the doctrinally binding texts say about a dead man being Moshiach? In a presentation appropriate for both the layman and the experienced scholar, this work demonstrates from dozens of texts that according to the authentic Jewish tradition the Rebbe unfortunately cannot be Moshiach.

Book excerpt: Toward a Meaningful Life is a spiritual road map for living based on the teachings of one of the foremost religious leaders of our time: Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. Head of the Lubavitcher movement for forty-four years and recognized throughout the world simply as “the Rebbe,” Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who passed away in June 1994, was a sage and a visionary of the highest order. Toward a Meaningful Life gives people of all backgrounds fresh perspectives on every aspect of their lives—from birth to death, youth to old age; marriage, love, intimacy, and family; the persistent issues of career, health, pain, and suffering; and education, faith, science, and government. We learn to bridge the divisions between accelerated technology and decelerated morality, between unprecedented worldwide unity and unparalleled personal disunity. Although the Rebbe’s teachings are firmly anchored in more than three thousand years of scholarship, the urgent relevance of these old-age truths to contemporary life has never been more manifest. At the threshold of a new world where matter and spirit converge, the Rebbe proposes spiritual principles that unite people as opposed to the materialism that divides them. In doing so, he continues to lead us toward personal and universal redemption, toward a meaningful life, and toward God.

Book excerpt: Menaḥem Mendel Schneerson (1902-1994) was the seventh and seemingly last Rebbe of the Habad-Lubavitch dynasty. Marked by conflicting tendencies, Schneerson was a radical messianic visionary who promoted a conservative political agenda, a reclusive contemplative who built a hasidic sect into an international movement, and a man dedicated to the exposition of mysteries who nevertheless harbored many secrets. Schneerson astutely masked views that might be deemed heterodox by the canons of orthodoxy while engineering a fundamentalist ideology that could subvert traditional gender hierarchy, the halakhic distinction between permissible and forbidden, and the social-anthropological division between Jew and Gentile. While most literature on the Rebbe focuses on whether or not he identified with the role of Messiah, Elliot R. Wolfson, a leading scholar of Jewish mysticism and the phenomenology of religious experience, concentrates instead on Schneerson's apocalyptic sensibility and his promotion of a mystical consciousness that undermines all discrimination. For Schneerson, the ploy of secrecy is crucial to the dissemination of the messianic secret. To be enlightened messianically is to be delivered from all conceptual limitations, even the very notion of becoming emancipated from limitation. The ultimate liberation, or true and complete redemption, fuses the believer into an infinite essence beyond all duality, even the duality of being emancipated and not emancipated--an emancipation, in other words, that emancipates one from the bind of emancipation. At its deepest level, Schneerson's eschatological orientation discerned that a spiritual master, if he be true, must dispose of the mask of mastery. Situating Habad's thought within the evolution of kabbalistic mysticism, the history of Western philosophy, and Mahayana Buddhism, Wolfson articulates Schneerson's rich theology and profound philosophy, concentrating on the nature of apophatic embodiment, semiotic materiality, hypernomian transvaluation, nondifferentiated alterity, and atemporal temporality.
