Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Martin was a pioneer of Clark County, Kentucky, where he lived on Lower Howard's Creek. John had been a blacksmith in Goochland County, Virginia, where he married Rachel Pace. He owned a small farm there before moving to Ballenger Creek in what is now Fluvanna County. John and Rachel were the parents of thirteen children. In the late 1780s, the parents and children moved to Kentucky. John settled on a hillside farm in an area then known as the Bush Settlement. John now has descendants too numerous to count, some still in Clark County, the others spread all over. Our John Martin has been confused with a number of other men of the same name, and their deeds have been conflated to create a mythical man. One goal of this work is to provide a fully documented history of the life of John Martin of Lower Howard's Creek. Illustrated, indexed.

This book was released on 2015-10-23 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No one played a more important role in the settlement of Clark County than Capt. William "Billy" Bush. Born in Orange County, Virginia, Billy came out with Daniel Boone in 1775, resided for a time at Fort Boonesborough, then spent the rest of his life living a few miles from the fort. He thus became one of the first permanent settlers in Kentucky. Billy was also a key figure in establishing Providence Baptist Church, the first church in Clark County. Their place of worship-the Old Stone Church-is now the oldest church on Kentucky soil. Billy Bush laid claim to thousands of acres of land between Winchester and the Kentucky River, and Daniel Boone ran the surveys for him. This land became the foundation of the Bush Settlement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rebels and King's Men documents the contributions of Bertie citizens to the war effort and chronicles their service and sacrifices. Men from the county served in significant numbers in North Carolina's Continental Line regiments and companies of the county's detached militia. Contrarily, a segment of the populace devoutly supported King George III and became entwined in a Loyalist conspiracy that sprouted in the northeastern region of North Carolina during the spring and summer of 1777. The plot, once exposed within Bertie and neighboring counties, was quickly and thoroughly crushed by Whig leaders. Rebels and King's Men portrays the overall dedication of a small rural community to freedom and democracy--the underpinnings of the American experience.

Book excerpt: The War of 1812 was fought by eighteen states--the original thirteen states that formed the Union, as well as Vermont, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Louisiana. In the preparation of this work, the compiler surveyed the records of the National Archives, as well as many of the libes and archives of the eighteen states in which fatalities were recorded. The end result is an authoritative list of some 3,500 known military dead of the War of 1812. The entries, which are alphabetically arranged, give the name of the deceased, his rank, the name of his company or branch of service, his date of death, and an indication as to whether the individual died in battle or as a prisoner of war.

Book excerpt: Nearly all the adult male settlers of Kentucky had seen service in the Revolutionary War, and this 0was especially true of the settlers from Virginia, many of whom had been granted bounty lands in Kentucky for their Revolutionary services. In addition to a roll of the officers of the Virginia Line who received land bounties in Kentucky, this work includes a roll of the Revolutionary pensioners in Kentucky, a list of the Illinois Regiment that served under George Rogers Clark in the Northwest Campaign, and a roster of the Virginia Navy, amounting in total to about 6,500 individuals. The important roll of pensioners, alphabetically arranged under each county, contains about 3,000 names, with rank or grade, the state they served from, character of service, the act under which they were beneficiaries, the date they were placed on the rolls, and their ages.
Book Synopsis Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia by : Mrs. Howard H. McCall
Download or read book Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia written by Mrs. Howard H. McCall and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 2010-07 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mrs. McCall's roster of Georgia soldiers in the Revolution was compiled over many years. The work as a whole is cumulative, with only slight, albeit significant, differences in the kinds of information which may be found in one volume versus another. This volume (Volume II) contains records of officers and soldiers not only from Georgia but from other states, many of whose descendants later came to Georgia because of liberal land grants. The Appendix contains miscellaneous records and documents of the families of some Revolutionary soldiers and officers. Clearfield Company also publishes Volumes I and III. Volume I coontains the records of hundreds of Revolutionary War soldiers and officers of Georgia, with genealogies of their families, and lists of soldiers buried in Georgia whose graves have been located. Volume III, the longest of the work, is similar in scope to this volume except that the majority of the entries are for Georgia officers and soldiers, with only some material relating to other states. The three volumes, each of which is indexed, refer to as many as 20,000 persons overall.

The Battle on River Raisin, which was fought in and around Frenchtown (now Monroe), Michigan from January 18 to January 23, 1812, was one of the four principal campaigns of the War of 1812 engaged in by Kentucky forces. Following the massacre of American forces at Frenchtown--including as many as sixty Kentucky soldiers-- Kentucky, patriots exhorted one another with shouts of "Remember the Raisin," which gave the new nation the "vengeance-fired impetus" to wage the remaining battles of the War of 1812.
