Book excerpt: Have you ever notice when you walk into a car dealer or just browsing around a car lot, and a sale person spots you, the thought comes to your mind, here comes the sales pitch. Well, that's not going to happen here. I want you to buy the book, but only if you feel you need it. No pressure sales here. The reason I decided to write this kind of a book is to help others setup, what I call the comprehensive home network. (Or in plain English, the Perfect Network.)I have had a couple of home networks but always found them to have some shortcomings. When I went Linux entirely, I found this was the best and easiest way to go. I also found that going with the biggest and the best equipment was not always the best way to go. History in BriefWhere I started and where I am now I had a home server that was setup as a file server, web server, print server, FTP server and then a cloud server. I started out hosting my web pages but soon decided not to do that. Then I decided to move the server to another location. That's just a little history in brief. What I have nowMy home network is completely different now. I still have a server but off site and I can and do control it remotely. I have three printers on a wire hooked directly to a network hub and am using an old laptop for a file server with some big USB drives connected to it. This description is basic, and we will be looking at a more in-depth setup as I give you a step by step in how I set it up.I kept this introduction short, so you could make up your mind if you want help and a few suggestions in setting up a home network that is Linux based.
