Book excerpt: Are you getting tons of likes on your social media posts, but struggle to turn those likes into leads and sales? You are not alone. There are plenty of people with tens of thousands of followers who get hundreds of likes and comments on every single post, but yet struggle to sell even one unit of their product. The underlying problem is that most social media marketing strategies are built to inflate metrics such as likes, comments, and shares. Likes don't pay bills, book 2 in the Authentic Marketing Series, bust the five most significant social media marketing myths, and give you clear, actionable strategies of what you can do today to be more successful on social media. Myth 1: Your Followers Care About You Myth 2: More Likes and Shares are Better Myth 3: There Is So Much Noise, I Need to Find the Best Hack to Break Through Myth 4: Post X Times Per Day at Exactly X O'clock Myth 5: My Product Doesn't Sell - Fix It with More Ads Are you ready to unleash social media marketing's true power and get leads and sales instead of likes and shares? You can start now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2009, Ronald C. Gordon published Not Fade Away, a coming-of-age story set in Texas in 1959. A first novel, it was the product of many drafts, considerable professional editing, and a long, arduous attempt to find an agent and publisher. Now, in Dont Tell Me Your Wife Likes It (one particular literary agents sole criterion for submissions to him), Mr. Gordon recounts his painful and frequently hilarious rollercoaster ride to publication. The author details not only the joys and frustrations of creating a long work of fiction, but also the many pitfalls and compromises that await the first novelist with a marketable manuscript. He introduces us to the How-To tribe of Literary Wannabeeland, the horde of self-described experts who claim to know all the rules for writing saleable fiction and who, for a price (financial and otherwise), will share the secret to success with their even more numerous prey. He also explores the particular problems that await the author of literary fiction in a publishing marketplace dominated by genre fiction and a mythical target audience he designates dumb and dumber. In doing so, the author demonstrates a profound understanding of literary history, the craft of writing, and the role of autobiography in creating fiction. Above all, he convinces us that a good writer is first of all a good reader. Part memoir, part literary analysis, and a thoroughly cautionary tale, Dont Tell Me Your Wife Likes It offers an entertaining and illuminating examination of what it means to be a unknown, unpublished novelist in todays highly competitive literary marketplace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meet the UK's most notorious football hooligans. Author Andrew Woods has come face-to-face with Millwall's most famous firm and now, for the first time, the Bushwackers reveal all about their bloodiest battles and fiercest rivalries -- in their own words. But among the camaraderie, the battles of wits with the police and the exhilarating toe-to-toe run-ins with the opposition, this book also examines the history of hooliganism and why measures brought in to combat violence have failed. Packed with hilarious characters, shocking tales and plenty of excitement, no stone is left unturned in this journey into the dark side of football. With stories from the 1960s to the present day -- including the infamous Luton riot of 1985, the 'Mad Season' of 2001/02 and the ongoing war with West Ham's ICF -- No-one Likes Us, We Don't Care is the ultimate collection of tales from the terraces.

Book excerpt: The Little Book of Likes is dedicated to helping small (and very small) nonprofits build an audience on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. This short guide leads Executive Directors and nonprofit marketing managers through the ins and outs of a simple social media strategy that is effective and sustainable. With real-world practical advice, it recognizes that nonprofit managers usually have better things to be doing than updating Facebook. Like The Little Book of Gold, it was written specifically for small nonprofits as a “road map” to the often confusing and changing world of social media. New material in the revised and expanded edition covers Facebook advertising, podcasting, and other tools to help make your social media work for you. Revised and expanded in 2019!

Book excerpt: This book is about the family lives of some 10,000 children and adults who live in an all-Negro public housing project in St Louis. The Pruitt-Igoe project is only one of the many environments in which urban Negro Americans lived in the 1960s, but the character of the family life there shares much with the family life of lower-class Negroes as it has been described by other investigators in other cities and at other times, in Harlem, Chicago, New Orleans, or Washington D.C. This book is primarily concerned with private life as it is lived from day to day in a federally built and supported slum. The questions, which are treated here, have to do with the kinds of interpersonal relationships that develop in nuclear families, the socialization processes that operate in families as children grow up in a slum environment, the informal relationships of children and adolescents and adults with each other, and, finally, the world views (the existential framework) arising from the life experiences of the Pruitt-Igoeans and the ways they make use of this framework to order their experiences and make sense out of them. The lives of these persons are examined in terms of life cycles. Each child there is born into a constricted world, the world of lower class, Negro existence, and as he grows he is shaped and directed by that existence through the day-to-day experiences and relationships available to him. The crucial transition from child of a family; to progenitor of a new family begins in adolescence, and for this reason the book pays particular attention to how each new generation of parents expresses the cultural and social structural forces that formed it and continue to constrain its behavior. This book, in short, is about intimate personal life in a particular ghetto setting. It does not analyze the larger institutional, social structural, and ideological forces that provide the social, economic, and political context in which lower-class Negro life is lived. These larger macro sociological forces are treated in another volume based on research in the Pruitt-Igoe community. However, this book does draw on the large body of literature on the structural position of Negroes in American society as background for its analysis of Pruitt-Igoe private life.
