Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This technical report presents Belvoir RD & E Center analysis and recommendations for replacing the Lighter, Air Cushion Vehicle, 30-Ton (LACV-30) aluminum fuel line system with rubber hose. The original system was prone to corrosion and fuel leakage and had an expensive, sole-sourced replacement. Tests performed on rubber hose included salt spray, abrasion, and cold temperature resistance; fuel compatability (JP-4, 2 diesel fuel); and properties such as tensile strength, elongation, volume swell, specific gravity, peel adhesion. The new system and its hardware (low pressure SAE 30 R7 rubber hose and 6061 aluminum fittings) have the following advantages: increased durability, reduced down and installation times, improved safety, cost effectiveness, field repairable, and no need for special tools or skills.

This book was released on 1993 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The LACV-30-07 Air Cushion Vehicle was instrumented and tested at Fort Story, VA during the months of August-September 1993 by Ed. Thomas, NSWC- Cardrock Division, Annapolis Detachment, Annapolis, MD. The tests include 27 cuts with vehicle speed ranging from 0 to 42 knots and approximate wave height of 0 to 2.5 feet. Two triaxial accelerometers, and a pitch and roll transducer were installed to measure axial, transverse and vertical accelerations and pitch and roll (in degree) of the vehicle. The test results clearly show that the vibration g-amplitude is extremely low (fraction of 1-g level) for air cushion vehicle and air cushion vehicle itself is acting as a super-damper to reduce the wave-induced vibration response amplitude. The vibration amplitude in terms of g-level may not be the controlling factor, but the combined vehicle dominant frequencies, vibration g-level, and duration may be the definite factors that the superconductor magnet must persist. Air cushion vehicle, Vibration criteria, Wave height, Vibration g-level pitch and roll.

Book Synopsis Theory and Design of Air Cushion Craft by : Liang Yun
Download or read book Theory and Design of Air Cushion Craft written by Liang Yun and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2000 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This definitive text describes the theory and design both of Air Cushion Vehicles (ACV) and Surface Effect Ships (SES). It begins by introducing hovercraft types and their development and application throughout the world in the last three decades, before going on to discuss the theoretical aspects of ACV and SES craft covering their hovering performance, dynamic trim over calm water, resistance, stability, manoeuvrability, skirt configuration and analysis of forces acting on the skirts, ACV and SES seakeeping, and the methodology of scaling aerodynamic and hydrodynamic forces acting on the ACV/SES from model test data. The latter chapters describe a design methodology, including design criteria and standard methods for estimating craft performance, lift system design, skirt design, hull structure, propulsion systems and power unit selection. Much technical information, data, and references to further work on hovercraft and SES design is provided. The book will be a useful reference to engineers, technicians, teachers, students (both undergraduate and postgraduate), operators etc. who are involved in ACV/SES research, design, construction and operation. Guides the reader on how to perform machinery and systems selection within ACV and SES overall design For teachers, students (both at under- and post-graduate level), engineers and technicians involved in ACV/SES
