Book Synopsis Canon Law, the Expansion of Europe, and World Order by : James Muldoon
Download or read book Canon Law, the Expansion of Europe, and World Order written by James Muldoon and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this volume trace the development of the theory that humanity forms a single world community and that there exists a body of law governing the relations among the members of that community. These ideas first appeared in the writings of the medieval canon lawyers and received their fullest development in the writings of early modern Spanish intellectuals. Conflict and contact with ’the infidel’ provided a stimulus for the elaboration of these ideas in the later Middle Ages, but major impetus was given by the English subjugation of Ireland, and by the discovery of the Americas. This body of work paved the way for the modern notions of an international legal order and universal norms of behavior usually associated with the publication of Hugo Grotius’s work in the seventeenth century.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Effect on the World of the Restoration of the Canon Law: Being a Vindication of the Catholic Church Against a Priest Observe, it is the life of the Enemy that is permitted to be taken, and then only in a just War, and so the judicial decision in respect to the first Chinese War shows that unless there be a Declaration of War there is no Enemy, and therefore it is that he who takes life when there has been no Declaration is guilty of murder by statute as well as by the Canon Law. Book Synopsis Canon Law as Ministry by : James A. Coriden
Download or read book Canon Law as Ministry written by James A. Coriden and published by Paulist Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "James Coriden offers a vision of canon law in the Catholic Church - seeing it not as an instrument of control but as a guide and guarantee of freedom for believers. In the process he emphatically joins the ongoing debate about the role of church law, a debate that he believes "will have profound implications for the long term," possibly reshaping the law and indeed "the very face of the church." While his message is addressed primarily to professional canonists, it will resonate among all Catholics who care about the way their church functions." "The view of canon law that unfolds in these pages is that of a ministry that upholds the freedom of believers and the good order of the community. This is based on the assumption that "church" is first of all a local community rather than a global structure. The test of effective law depends upon its service to the lived experience of its members in their own cultural, economic and social situations." "The concluding section of this book sets forth "An Urgent Agenda for the Future of the Ministry," particularly in the way church law is revised and amended."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. In this way his empire will have an external and political Side. The proclamation of this kingdom was termed the Gospel, that is, the good news for man. The ministerial work of our Lord was one long pro clamation Of this kingdom.2 Nor is the originality of this work of Christ the least striking of its features. It is in fact unique. Mahomet copied it, and spoilt it; but Christ is absolutely original. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2015-07-19 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Complete Manual of Canon Law, Vol. 1 IN the hope that these Short Manuals may contribute in some small degree to help forward that unity for which Christ prayed, by diminishing the prejudice, misunderstanding, and ignorance which is so largely responsible for the present divided state of Christendom, the present volume containing the first series is offered to the public. We have it on the authority of Christ Himself that He came into the world to be at once the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and that He left it to His Church to carry on the work which He began. It is, therefore, and must ever be the office of the Church to hold Him up to the end of time as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. In order to manifest Christ as the Way to God, the Church is called upon to be itself the commonwealth of righteousness, the light of the world, the reflection of Him who is the true Light. Download or read book The New Canon Law written by Rev Stanislaus Woywod and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The New Canon Law: A Commentary and Summary of the New Code of Canon Law For several months past the articles by Father Stanislaus Woywod in the Ecclesiastical Review have informed the clergy of the most important features of the new Code of Canon Law. The same author now gives to the public a Summary and Commentary of the whole Code. As the present volume is published mainly with a view of the needs of the clergy engaged in the care of souls, the bulk of the book has been kept as compact as possible; wherefore in such places only where explanation and comment seemed necessary they have been given, and in as brief a form as possible. Chapters which are not needed by every priest have been mentioned only with few words and en passant, as it were. The fourth and the fifth Book have been summed up very briefly, giving the most important points of legislation contained therein. A very complete Index will make it easy to find any desired point of law. We heartily congratulate Father Woywod on the good work and trust that the clergy of the United States will be pleased to find in this volume a welcome means of acquiring the necessary knowledge of the new legislation of the Church.
