Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BEING TOO CURIOUS ABOUT LIFE GOT ME TWO CHANCES IN LIFE- Curiosity and lack of knowledge gets me a second chance in life. It takes a vision of death to upgrade my love and fear for God. Everything is upgradeable from that entertainment system in your home, to the computer you use can be upgraded. But we are talking about life and God grades our life from high up above. When we are tested on our jobs or at school, and we fail the test, we don’t get the promotion. But we can always take the test over. Imagine being at the end of your life and you fail the test that will determine whether you get in heaven or not. You can’t take this test over. And it’s a test we just can’t get around. No matter who you are, no matter what you have done, sooner or later you must take this test. Even though there is no way around, there is a way to pass this test. Just call on Jesus. He is available 24/7, and he will save you. See, for me, I was 30 at the time and thought I knew and had it all. I didn’t need anybody for nothing let me tell it. I was prepared for the world, but I wasn’t prepared for the end of the world. God had something prepared for me that changed and saved my life. It all happened due to curiosity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A poet celebrates the wonders of nature in a collection of essays that could almost serve as a coming-of-age memoir.” —Kirkus Reviews As a child, Nezhukumatathil called many places home: the grounds of a Kansas mental institution, where her Filipina mother was a doctor; the open skies and tall mountains of Arizona, where she hiked with her Indian father; and the chillier climes of western New York and Ohio. But no matter where she was transplanted—no matter how awkward the fit or forbidding the landscape—she was able to turn to our world’s fierce and funny creatures for guidance. “What the peacock can do,” she tells us, “is remind you of a home you will run away from and run back to all your life.” The axolotl teaches us to smile, even in the face of unkindness; the touch-me-not plant shows us how to shake off unwanted advances; the narwhal demonstrates how to survive in hostile environments. Even in the strange and the unlovely, Nezhukumatathil finds beauty and kinship. For it is this way with wonder: it requires that we are curious enough to look past the distractions in order to fully appreciate the world’s gifts. Warm, lyrical, and gorgeously illustrated by Fumi Nakamura, World of Wonders is a book of sustenance and joy. Book excerpt: 'Curiosity' and 'wonder' are topics of increasing interest and importance to Renaissance and Enlightenment historians. Conspicuous in a host of disciplines from history of science and technology to history of art, literature, and society, both have assumed a prominent place in studies of the Early Modern period. This volume brings together an international group of scholars to investigate the various manifestations of, and relationships between, 'curiosity' and 'wonder' from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Focused case studies on texts, objects and individuals explore the multifaceted natures of these themes, highlighting the intense fascination and continuing scrutiny to which each has been subjected over three centuries. From instances of curiosity in New World exploration to the natural wonders of 18th-century Italy, Curiosity and Wonder from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment locates its subjects in a broad geographical and disciplinary terrain. Taken together, the essays presented here construct a detailed picture of two complex themes, demonstrating the extent to which both have been transformed and reconstituted, often with dramatic results.

Book excerpt: After the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, many people questioned why no one had anticipated the terrorists' acts, even when events and intelligence seemed to point toward them. John Barell wonders if the attacks speak to a greater societal problem of complacency. He believes many students have become too passive in their learning, accepting information and "facts" as presented in textbooks, classes, and the media. Drawing on anecdotes from educators and his own life, Barell describes practical strategies to spur students' ability and willingness to pose and answer their own questions. Antarctica expeditions, outer space discoveries, dinosaur fossils, literature, and more help define the importance of developing an inquisitive mind, using such practices as * Maintaining journals on field trips, * Using questioning frames and models when reading texts, * Engaging in critical thinking and problem-based learning, and * Integrating inquiry into curriculum development and the classroom culture. To become habits of mind, students' daily curiosities must be nurtured and supported. Barell draws a vivid map to guide readers to "an intelligent revolution" in which schools can become places where educators and students imagine and work together to become active citizens in their society. In order to explore this life, this book introduces how we create our world through curiosity design. Curiosity anatomy and psychology are discussed, in a way never been introduced before, to give importance of ‘why we should design and live a curious life?’. The book shades clear discussions and examples about the importance of curious life to both our learning and development. The role of curiosity in finding the right problem, or the right solution is deeply dialogued to show how curiosity makes differentiation to the legacy of individuals, organisations and communities. It is a journey about us and what we can do using the instrument of curiosity.

Book excerpt: Did you know that of the 183 questions Jesus was asked, he answered only four of them directly? The other 179 he answered with questions (or sometimes a story). Questions are not the enemy of faith; they are the way Jesus most often helped people not just say the right things, but live the right ways. The joy, creativity, and the adventure we were created to live begin with asking the right questions and then living into the answers with God’s help. If you are wondering how to draw closer to Jesus and live your unique adventure with him, Curious will help you, question by question, step into the future God has for you. If you are a leader who wonders how to lead well without burning out, Curious will show you how, by asking the right questions, you can help empower those you influence to greater motivation and creativity as they live out their answers to these questions with God’s help. As Jesus demonstrated, asking the right questions at the right time, and communicating them in the right spirit, can transform hearts and change the world. Let Tom Hughes thread together stories that will lead you into a new sense of confidence, not in yourself but in the God who loves you and calls you according to his good purpose.

Book Synopsis The Wonders of Life by : Ernst Haeckel

Book excerpt: "The publication of the present work on The Wonders of Life has been occasioned by the success of The Riddle of the Universe, which was written five years prior to this volume. Within a few months of the issue of this study of the monistic philosophy, in the autumn of 1899, ten thousand copies were sold. The clear opposition of the author's monistic philosophy, based as it was on the most advanced and sound scientific knowledge, to the conventional ideas and to an outworn "revelation," led to the publication of a vast number of criticisms and attacks. The present work on the wonders of life is, as the title indicates, a supplementary volume to The Riddle of the Universe. While the latter undertook to make a comprehensive survey of the general questions of science--as cosmological problems--in the light of the monistic philosophy, the present volume is confined to the realm of organic science, or the science of life. It seeks to deal connectedly with the general problems of biology, in strict accord with the monistic and mechanical principles which had been laid down by the author in 1866 in his work titled, General Morphology. In the latter publication, special stress was placed on the universality of the law of substance and the substantial unity of nature, which had been further treated in the second and fourteenth chapters of The Riddle of the Universe. The arrangement of the vast material for this study of the wonders of life was modeled on that of the Riddle. Retained in the present volume is the division into larger and smaller sections and the synopses of the various chapters. Thus the whole biological content falls into four sections and twenty chapters"--Preface. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved).
