Book excerpt: Excerpt from Life's a Dream: The Great Theatre of the World These translations have lain by me for nearly twice the nine years during which Horace recommended that a poem should remain in its author's power. They formed part of a larger scheme long ago conceived; but in the carrying out of which I presently discovered inner difficulties; not to say that it would have required, as I also soon was aware, a far greater amount of time and labour than I was either willing or had a right to bestow upon it. The scheme was consequently laid aside. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis Simple Abundance by : Sarah Ban Breathnach
Download or read book Simple Abundance written by Sarah Ban Breathnach and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic, mega-bestselling guide that has led so many women to lead more fulfilling, harmonious, joyful lives-fully updated for a new generation who needs it more than ever. In SIMPLE ABUNDANCE, Sarah Ban Breathnach helps us discover our true self and spirit to reclaim our authentic life, and to rediscover what it is that makes us truly happy. This powerful guidebook is needed now more than ever as we are assaulted by discord and stress due to constant tragic breaking news, as well as our 24-7 social media culture. Here are some examples of Sarah's wisdom: January 14: Start a Gratitude Journal, a blank book, and write down five things before you go to bed that you can be grateful for about that day. March 21: Observe the Vernal Equinox with a springtime dinner of Salmon cakes, fresh asparagus and new potatoes. September 1: On Labor Day Weekend, make a list of all the things you wanted to do this summer, but did not get a chance to do. Save this list, and clip it to next June in your calendar. When June comes around, schedule those postponed desires! By providing a meditation for each day of the year, Sarah illuminates our journey of self-discovery and shows us that simplicity does not imply doing without-true simplicity illuminates our lives from within. She teaches us how to re-order our priorities, carve out time for the personal pursuits that bring contentment, savor the joy of simple pleasures, and delight in the everyday rituals of home and garden. Not only does each day have a meditation updated for these times, but in this new edition, Sarah will add: - "A Caution Closet," which will encourage readers to gather everything they would need to evacuate in case of an emergency, transforming an intimidating task to a source of comfort and calm. - "Shepheard's Hotel," a creative exercise to nudge readers into dreaming new dreams and encourage them to re-imagine their lives through what they love.
Book Synopsis In Defiance of Painting by : Christine Poggi
Download or read book In Defiance of Painting written by Christine Poggi and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The invention of collage by Picasso and Braque in 1912 proved to be a dramatic turning point in the development of Cubism and Futurism and ultimately one of the most significant innovations in twentieth-century art. Collage has traditionally been viewed as a new expression of modernism, one allied with modernism's search for purity of means, anti-illusionism, unity, and autonomy of form. This book - the first comprehensive study of collage and its relation to modernism - challenges this view. Christine Poggi argues that collage did not become a new language of modernism but a new language with which to critique modernism. She focuses on the ways Cubist collage - and the Futurist multimedia work that was inspired by it - undermined prevailing notions of material and stylistic unity, subverted the role of the frame and pictorial ground, and brought the languages of high and low culture into a new relationship of exchange.
