Book excerpt: Over the years, Christian historiography has overlooked Carrie Judd Montgomery?s (1858-1946) significant contribution to both the Divine Healing movement and Pentecostalism. Her 1879 healing account, early healing homes, and contribution to the formation of the doctrine of healing in the atonement make her one of the most influential people in the American Divine Healing movement. Following her 1908 tongues experience, Montgomery additionally impacted early Pentecostalism by spreading its themes throughout her networks and introducing many significant leaders to the Pentecostal Spirit baptism. An analysis of Montgomery?s writings from 1880-1920 reveal that the prayer of faith in James 5 and healing in the atonement were two of the major foundations in her theology of healing. Further, her pneumatology reveals that she actively pursued the fullness of the Spirit, also at times referred to as?Spirit baptism,? both before and after her own 1908 tongues experience. While speaking in tongues enhanced her spirituality and added a new flavor to her ministry, it did not produce any major shifts within her theology of healing. In light of her experiences with the Spirit throughout the years, a present day approach for revivals and a proposed redefinition of the Pentecostal Spirit baptism are presented.

Book excerpt: The newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection: this special eBook edition of The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd features exclusive content, including Oprah’s personal notes highlighted within the text, and a reading group guide. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women. Kidd’s sweeping novel is set in motion on Sarah’s eleventh birthday, when she is given ownership of ten year old Handful, who is to be her handmaid. We follow their remarkable journeys over the next thirty five years, as both strive for a life of their own, dramatically shaping each other’s destinies and forming a complex relationship marked by guilt, defiance, estrangement and the uneasy ways of love. As the stories build to a riveting climax, Handful will endure loss and sorrow, finding courage and a sense of self in the process. Sarah will experience crushed hopes, betrayal, unrequited love, and ostracism before leaving Charleston to find her place alongside her fearless younger sister, Angelina, as one of the early pioneers in the abolition and women’s rights movements. Inspired by the historical figure of Sarah Grimke, Kidd goes beyond the record to flesh out the rich interior lives of all of her characters, both real and invented, including Handful’s cunning mother, Charlotte, who courts danger in her search for something better. This exquisitely written novel is a triumph of storytelling that looks with unswerving eyes at a devastating wound in American history, through women whose struggles for liberation, empowerment, and expression will leave no reader unmoved. But life is everlasting and death becomes celebratory and rejoicing if man has learned to trade in his whole being and his life for God’s mercy and compassion for eternal life... By virtue of the unfathomable mercy and compassion of the eternal Father, the eternal Son has acquired our whole being through His own blood; therefore, our soul, body, and nothingness belong to Jesus Christ, and we no longer have a say on our existence and life anymore, nor do we own our sickness and pain, or affliction and death any longer, nor are we held responsible for our weaknesses and sins again. After we have been sold to the Lord and have become His assets, our whole being is undergoing spiritual restructuring, and our personal problems will soon be fixed. When our real name is ready for public listing in His Kingdom, and when our authentic being is ready to be enlightened and revealed, we will see God face to face. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is not always easy. In this life, we all suffer. We all hurt. We all mourn. We all feel pain. On the Wings of Hope is a collection of poems and devotions to remind us we are not alone. It is a book for those who are enduring some sort of trial, whether they are being abused, suffering the loss of a loved one, or simply feeling unloved. As someone who has experienced all of those things, author Toni Blea-Torres seeks to offer readers some hope and encouragement, reminding them that they can find comfort in God, our Father. As a child, Toni was the victim of sexual abuse. Later, as an adult, she suffered terrible physical, mental, verbal, and emotional abuse at the hands of her first husband. Then, when her parents passed away within a few years of each other, the emotions were compounded, and she felt completely lost. Writing became a cathartic release for her, a means to a new life. Friends found the work inspiring and encouraged her to use the writings as a sort of devotional. Others will be blessed by the topics she covers in her book, including family, friends, and faith. Toni Blea-Torres lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On the Wings of Hope is her first book.

Book excerpt: This book was written with much prayer and study of God’s word, and with love and honor for the word of God in Christ. The author observes that today’s churches lead away from sincere humility and repentance. In fact, they diminish the praise, honor, and glory owed the King of kings and Lord of lords in the church. He also reveals the dangers of believing in the pre-tribulational rapture tradition, which many churches teach. Find out what Scripture actually says as opposed to the traditions of men, who make God’s word of no effect, Mark 7:8, 13. Rather than fearing the seven-year tribulation, this book shows that Christ has a place of safety and provision for watchful, prepared believers at the start of the great tribulation, the last 1,260 days of this present age. Prepare yourself to endure to the end as Jesus taught us in Mattew 24:13, and to be like the five wise virgins of Matthew 25:1–13.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the Eagles' Wings is a practical book that one can easily identify with, as it exposes the practical issues that affect the outcome of decisions that people make while they face different challenges in life. This book outlines the principles that individuals must pay attention to in order to make a wise choice in critical moments when they are faced with a difficult decision. It also exposes common pitfalls that could make situations worse if they are not carefully avoided, like making hasty decisions. When an individual is faced with dilemma, if the person is not strong in the Lord, he or she can easily be blown about by every wind of doctrine, easily deterring one from reaching his goal. On the Eagles' Wings can be used as a point of reference by anyone going through difficult times or facing having to make a life-altering decision. This book is written based on biblical facts and references, as well as on true stories shared by Christians who have lived through hard times and have now shared the experiences that helped to ground them in the Lord. People go through different challenges in life. The most important thing while going through these trials is not so much the challenge itself, but instead how each individual tackles the situation-this is what makes the difference and grants the person victory. As Christians, we know that our faith is rooted in the Lord.
