Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a memoir. Upon reflection, a haphazard upbringing, with its diverse locations and vocations, brought Betty Undlin to an age where she could consider what had mattered and why, what had made her laugh and what had made her cry. In the process, she realized that, in her case, challenging life changes appeared in twenty-year segments. Whereas the general concept of life is that everything tapers off at about 60, she has not found that to be true. Betty believes that if you refuse to limit yourself to your calendar age, 60 - 80 can even be the best! Undlin's memoir will keep you entertained as you work your way through her most significant events. More than that, it will remind you that life begins at any age you like! About the Author Betty Undlin is a product of Texas and the Bay Area of California. After college, she joined the Foreign Service of the State Department and was sent to Sao Paulo, Brazil. There, she met her husband, Russell. When they returned to the States, Russell continued his career in foreign trade. Russ and Betty traveled abroad extensively, then bought a manufacturing business in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were active in that business until their retirement in 1990. After a 6-month unexpected assignment in Mozambique, they settled wholeheartedly into prison ministry. Russ developed an aftercare ministry for Christian men coming out of prison, and Betty taught the Bible in prisons throughout Arizona. These activities culminated in 2003 with the opening of The Bridge, a Christian halfway house. The Bridge opened in February of 2003. In August of 2003, Russ died suddenly. Since that time, Betty has continued to manage The Bridge, with its ever-changing group of "sons."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atheists assert that the natural world has no meaning or purpose. Dr Denis Alexander, Emeritus Director of The Faraday Institute for Science and Religion at St. Edmunds College, Cambridge, draws a different conclusion. Not only do recent evolutionary biological data appear inconsistent with the claim that the world is purposeless, but the Christian doctrine of creation has provided and continues to provide both context and stimulus for the study of the natural world. Christians started biology! However, is a belief in an omnipotent, benign Creator consistent with a world of pain and suffering? From a lifetime's study in the biological sciences, Denis Alexander believes that whilst the cost of existence is extremely high, it can nonetheless be squared with the idea of a God of love whose ultimate purposes for humankind render that cost more comprehensible.

Molecular Epidemiology has proven useful to epidemiologists unfamiliar with the terminology and techniques of molecular biology as well as to the molecular biologist working to understand the determinants of human disease and to use that information to control disease. This book demonstrates how molecular epidemiology utilizes the same paradigm as traditional epidemiology in addition to using biological markers to identify exposure, disease, or susceptibility.

Book excerpt: The result of lectures given by the authors at New York University, the University of Utah, and Michigan State University, the material is written for students who have had only one term of calculus, but it contains material that can be used in modeling courses in applied mathematics at all levels through early graduate courses. Numerous exercises are given as well as solutions to selected exercises, so as to lead readers to discover interesting extensions of that material. Throughout, illustrations depict physiological processes, population biology phenomena, corresponding models, and the results of computer simulations. Topics covered range from population phenomena to demographics, genetics, epidemics and dispersal; in physiological processes, including the circulation, gas exchange in the lungs, control of cell volume, the renal counter-current multiplier mechanism, and muscle mechanics; to mechanisms of neural control. Each chapter is graded in difficulty, so a reading of the first parts of each provides an elementary introduction to the processes and their models.
