Book excerpt: This unusual work is, in some respects, a sequel to the author's first work, Joie de Vivre, published by Page Publishing in 2016 and was designed to chronicle the author and his dear wife Claire's considerable European travels. Thus, the spectacular photos—in full color—are representative of their visits to Scandinavia, France, Germany, Italy, and Great Britain. Special attention is given to Norway, the home of Claire Andersons forbears; thus the reader will be treated to local scenes throughout the country with special attention given to coastal Norway aboard the cruise ship MS Polarlys on the cruise called Hurtigruten, billed as "The World's Most Beautiful Sea Voyage." Ever the historical bent traveler, Anderson recounts much German history during twin two-week voyages up the Rhine River. On one occasion, they docked overnight in Boppard, and conducted their own walking tour of the city. They were drawn to the glorious twelfth-century St. Severus Cathedral and, fortuitously, "bumped into" Herr Jacobs, the Cathedral organist. He led LeRoy and Claire up to the organ loft and treated them to a performance of Bach's "Prelude and Fugue in E minor." The Andersons' tour to Italy included a nice visit in the glorious Pantheon with its noted oculus and then in Navona Square, walking 'round Bernini's great "Four Rivers" fountain and concluding with glorious and relaxing alfresco dinners at Tre Scalini restaurant.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So, you want to go to Europe? But how could you not? There's something awfully romantic about spending midnight in Paris, watching the lights shine on the famed La Seine. There's something special about hearing the growls and grunts of cars on the vias and around the piazzas of Rome. There's something magical about walking on the streets of London in front of Buckingham Palace as the roads close down for the iconic Changing of the Guard. Europe--rich with history, culture, art, and adventure-- is the ultimate destination for any backpacker from any background. For all the hullabaloo around this small piece of land attached to Asia, the fairytale-like legends that you hear from old men in the park, friends, and parents are, for most part, true stories. Well, maybe all except for that one time Uncle Marty claimed he found an old manuscript of Ulysses on a Dublin pub crawl. Pub crawls and pretentious reading material aside, Europe awaits you. Paraglide in the mountains of Gimmelwald, shimmy your way into the most exclusive clubs of Berlin, or scuba dive between two tectonic plates in Iceland. When in Dubrovnik, find love on Lokrum Island and, in Athens, find your Adonis or Aphrodite. Get blown away by the beat of the Pamplona's Running of the Bulls and cheer on European sports teams in Munich's beer gardens. Europe has been, and will continue to be, the starting point for the adventures of students all around the world. Join the company of your fellow wanderlust-stricken adventure seekers and set your trip apart from the rest. Ready, set, Let's Go!

The Inquiry Learning Model shifts the heavy cognitive lifting from the teacher to the student. Documents and artifacts are used to provoke deep analysis and hone critical-thinking skills as students work in teams to interpret and connect clues to solve a mystery. A detailed step-by-step methodology is provided as well as six multidisciplinary lessons. Lessons are suitable for collaborative teaching or stand alone in discipline specific classes. For example, Exploitation and Immortality: The Story of Henrietta Lacks, is a lesson that can be used in the science, social studies, English or math classroom, or a combination of any of these disciplines. In addition to the methodology and lessons, Teaching with Inquiry includes differentiation strategies to adapt lessons to all learners, suggestions for lesson use in multiple disciplines, and a variety of graphic organizers to help students organize, process, and summarize the information throughout the lesson.
