(institut universitaire de formation des maîtres), les sciences physiques et la technologie sont des disciplines constitutives des modules de base destines a l'ensemble des étudiants préparant le concours. Or, une majorité d'étudiants se considère trop souvent démunie, voire inapte et incompétente pour ce type d'enseignement a l'école. Nous partons du postulat que cette attitude repose sur des représentations et nous faisons l'hypothèse que la formation peut aboutir a une modification de ces représentations et, par conséquence, a un changement des attitudes et des discours. Les méthodes que nous avons employées pour accéder aux représentations des sujets interroges reposent sur l'association libre a partir des termes évocateurs: sciences physiques et technologie, et sur les mises en relation et les cartes associatives d'items issus des réponses a un premier questionnaire "ouvert" '.physique, matériel, connaissances, formules, technologie, schémas, expériences, lecture, environnement.. La constitution des couples de mots (schéma de relation; test de la roue) s'inspire de recueils de données proposes par grize. Les réponses ont été transposées en valeurs numériques qui indiquent les nombres de mises en relation des items pris deux a deux. Nous avons analyse des données brutes et des données pondérées. Le traitement a abouti a des graphes de relation qui par hypothèse sont une traduction des représentations des sujets. Le travail de la recherche a consiste a analyser les réponses de début et de fin de formation, item par item, et a expliciter l'évolution des graphes traduisant ces représentations.

Book excerpt: This collection of essays traces the attempts of one writing teacher to understand theoretically - and to respond pedagogically - to what happens when students from diverse backgrounds learn to use language in college.Bizzell begins from the assumption that democratic education requires us to attempt to educate all students, including those whose social or ethnic backgrounds may have offered them little experience with academic discourse. Over the ten-year period chronicled in these essays, she has seen herself primarily as an advocate for such students, sometimes called "basic writers."Bizzell's views on education for "critical consciousness," widely discussed in the writing field, are represented in most of the essays in this volume.
