Inland Water Resources and Aquaculture Service and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aquaculture is developing, expanding and intensifying in almost all regions of the world, except in sub-Saharan Africa. Although the sector appears to be capable of meeting the gap between future demand and supply for aquatic food, there are many constraints and challenges which must be addressed in order to at least maintain the present level of per capita consumption at the global level. Key issues are the need for enhanced enforcement of regulation and better governance of the sector, as well as greater producer participation in the decision-making and regulation process. This publication examines past trends in aquaculture development as well as the current global status, drawing on a number of national and regional reviews.

Book Synopsis Climate Smart Agriculture in South Asia by : Barun Deb Pal
Download or read book Climate Smart Agriculture in South Asia written by Barun Deb Pal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-09-25 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses various climate smart agro-technologies, their technical and economic feasibility across heterogeneous agro-climatic conditions, assessing farmers’ willingness to adopt those technologies, impact of climate smart technology in agricultural production and possible policy and investment opportunities to upscale it. Containing eight chapters, the book starts with a discussion about the methodological aspects of priority setting of the farm technologies across various regions of South Asia including Eastern Indo-Gangetic plain, Western Indo-Gangetic Plain and arid regions. Using data from field based trials and expert solicitations, the book next deliberates on a list of feasible technologies, assessed by constructing climate smart Feasibility Index. Further on, there is an analysis, using stated preference method, of the behaviour of farmers in adopting climate smart technologies. Preference of women farmers has been given a special focus in this book. After discussing the method priority setting of the farm technologies, impact of climate smart technologies has been analysed using real time data. Government policies have been reviewed with the view of achieving climate smart agriculture in South Asia. The book also describes the optimization modelling framework for investment allocation and technology prioritization. The model integrates both the bio-physical and the economic optimization model to capture the agro-climatic heterogeneity within the region and the variability of technical feasibility across regions and crops. Results of this model will help policy makers to identify how much to invest, where to invest and what technologies to prioritize for investments.

Book Synopsis World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2020 by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Download or read book World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2020 written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FAO has supported member countries to carry out their national agricultural censuses since 1945, through the development and dissemination of international standards, concepts, definitions and methodologies as well as technical assistance. In 2015, FAO published Volume 1 of the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2020 (WCA 2020) “Programme, concepts and definitions”, the tenth decennial programme that provides guidelines for implementation of national agricultural censuses in the 2016-2025 decade. Volume 1 deals with the methodological and conceptual aspects of the census of agriculture. In addition to the use of international standards, the proper conduct of an agricultural census also depends on adequate planning, implementation, use of resources and quality assurance throughout all stages of the census. In light of this, Volume 2 of WCA 2020 “Operational guidelines” has been designed to guide national census practitioners responsible for conducting the agricultural census. It deals with the practical steps involved in actually conducting an agricultural census in the field. Volume 2 is a revised and updated edition of “Conducting Agricultural Censuses and Surveys”, published by FAO in 1996. The revision is opportune not only in view of the recent publication of the new census programme and methodology but also in view of the substantial changes witnessed in the census technological environment over the last two decades. The availability of digital, mobile and more affordable tools for data capture, geo-positioning, remote sensing imaging, digital archiving and online dissemination have provided new cost-effective alternatives to traditional ways of conducting the agricultural census.
Book Synopsis The European Landscape Convention by : Michael Jones
Download or read book The European Landscape Convention written by Michael Jones and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-02-09 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important and insightful book provides, for the first time, a broad presentation of ongoing research into public participation in landscape conservation, management and planning, following the 2000 European Landscape Convention which came into force in 2004. The book examines both the theory of participation and what lessons can be learnt from specific European examples. It explores in what manner and to what extent the provisions for participation in the European Landscape Convention have been followed up and implemented. It also presents and compares different experiences of participation in selected countries from northern, southern, eastern and western Europe, and provides a critical examination of public participation in practice. However, while the book’s focus is necessarily on Europe, many of the conclusions drawn are of global relevance. The book provides a valuable reference for researchers and advanced students in landscape policies and management, as well as for professionals and others interested in land-use planning and environmental management.

Book Synopsis Road Traffic and Safety by : Amit Agrawal
Download or read book Road Traffic and Safety written by Amit Agrawal and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Road space is shared by multiple vehicles (i.e. cars, taxis, buses, trucks, motorcycles, and mopeds), pedestrians, animals and many other categories of travellers. Easy availability of motor vehicles and advancements in their technology has made road travel easy; on the other hand, this has also resulted in a significant increase in the number of motor vehicle related injuries. Road traffic related injuries remain an important public health problem globally. It has been estimated that approximately 1.25 million people succumb to road traffic injuries annually worldwide, and between 20 and 50 million people sustain non-fatal injuries. It is a cause of great concern that 59% of the severely injured population is young adults aged between the age of 15 and 44 years. At present, globally road traffic injuries are ranked as the eighth leading cause of mortality, and if the current trends continues, it is expected to be the seventh leading cause of mortality at the global level by 2030. Road traffic safety is one of the most significant concerns of the United Nations and a 5-tiered approach has been proposed to combat traffic accidents and fatalities. This includes improvements in health care services focusing on injury care, road safety management, road network safety, vehicular safety, and implementation of road safety legislation. Changes in practices like speed control, use of seatbelts and helmets, respecting traffic signals and signs, avoiding drunken driving (or use of drugs), following traffic rules (lane driving) and avoiding mobile phones while driving are some of the behavioural changes that can bring about a significant reduction in the number of road traffic related injuries. The present book consists of fifteen chapters related to various aspects concerning road traffic and safety, including epidemiology of road traffic injuries, occupant protection and safety devices, risk factors, a manual of safety measures, road safety in hilly terrain and conflict zones, prevention of head injuries, the role of alcohol and bicycle related injuries. The authors hope that the book shall help the readers to get an overview of various aspects related to global road traffic and safety.
Book Synopsis Deforestation and Afforestation by : Fred L. Rogers
Download or read book Deforestation and Afforestation written by Fred L. Rogers and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extermination of forests is an essential part of human activity since prehistoric times. There are several reasons for this: the forest is an enemy environment hiding predators and other threats; the forest is a source for wood, which is used for firing and materials of construction; forest occupies land, which could be used for agriculture. Even now in spite of progress in ecological education, deforestation continuously accelerates everywhere. This book provides new research on the global challenges and issues on deforestation in the 21st Century.
