Book Synopsis The Contemporary Family in France by : Arnaud Régnier-Loilier
Download or read book The Contemporary Family in France written by Arnaud Régnier-Loilier and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-28 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a portrait of the family in France today, revealing many of the deep-seated, demographic changes that have affected French society in recent decades. It first focuses on conjugal and family trajectories, examining union formation, types of union, entry into parenthood, influence of religion, and separation. Next, the book explores domestic organization within the couple. It looks at gender differences in attitudes to task-sharing, division of household and parenting tasks, influence of past partnership history, and changes after a birth. The book presents a series of studies based on the French version of the international Generations and Gender Survey, a major comparative research project conducted in 20 countries to collect information from individuals aged 18-79 about relationships and processes in the life course. Inside, readers will find insightful analysis of the survey results by sociologists, demographers, and economists, and come to better understand recent demographic and social developments in France as well as the factors influencing them. The book will appeal to a broad audience of students and researchers interested in family, gender, and intergenerational relations. In addition, as the survey data are comparable across countries, the book will provide researchers with ideas for further research opportunities in Europe and beyond.

Book Synopsis Les "nouvelles familles" en France by : Gabriel Langouët
Download or read book Les "nouvelles familles" en France written by Gabriel Langouët and published by Hachette Book Group USA. This book was released on 1998 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Kinning of Foreigners by : Signe Howell
Download or read book The Kinning of Foreigners written by Signe Howell and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the late nineteen sixties, transnational adoption has emerged as a global phenomenon. Due to a sharp decline in infants being made available for adoption locally, involuntarily childless couples in Western Europe and North America who wish to create a family, have to look to look to countries in the poor South and Eastern Europe. The purpose of this book is to locate transnational adoption within a broad context of contemporary Western life, especially values concerning family, children and meaningful relatedness, and to explore the many ambiguities and paradoxes that the practice entails. Based on empirical research from Norway, the author identifies three main themes for analysis: Firstly, by focusing on the perceived relationship between biology and sociality, she examines how notions of child, childhood and significant relatedness vary across time and space. She argues that through a process of kinning, persons are made into kin. In the case of adoption, kinning overcomes a dominant cultural emphasis placed upon biological connectedness. Secondly, it is a study of the rise of expert knowledge in the understanding of 'the best interest of the child', and how the part played by the 'psycho.technocrats' effects national and international policy and practice of transnational adoption. Thirdly, it shows how transnational adoption both depends upon and helps to foster the globalisation of Western rationality and morality. The book is an original contribution to the anthropological study of kinship and globalisation.

Book Synopsis Common Core and Better Law in European Family Law by : Katharina Boele-Woelki
Download or read book Common Core and Better Law in European Family Law written by Katharina Boele-Woelki and published by Intersentia nv. This book was released on 2005 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains twenty-three contributions delivered at the CEFL's second international conference which took place in Utrecht in December 2004. The interventions written by both experienced family experts as well as young researchers cover those fields of family law that are closely related to the activities of the CEFL: (1) divorce and maintenance between former spouses, (2) parental responsibilities, (3) informal long-term relationships and (4) the revised Brussels II Regulation. Furthermore, the opening two contributions deal not only with essential aspects of the harmonisation process of family law in Europe but also with the CEFL's working method.
