Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Task Design In Mathematics Education by : Anne Watson
Download or read book Task Design In Mathematics Education written by Anne Watson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-26 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *THIS BOOK IS AVAILABLE AS OPEN ACCESS BOOK ON SPRINGERLINK* This open access book is the product of ICMI Study 22 Task Design in Mathematics Education. The study offers a state-of-the-art summary of relevant research and goes beyond that to develop new insights and new areas of knowledge and study about task design. The authors represent a wide range of countries and cultures and are leading researchers, teachers and designers. In particular, the authors develop explicit understandings of the opportunities and difficulties involved in designing and implementing tasks and of the interfaces between the teaching, researching and designing roles – recognising that these might be undertaken by the same person or by completely separate teams. Tasks generate the activity through which learners meet mathematical concepts, ideas, strategies and learn to use and develop mathematical thinking and modes of enquiry. Teaching includes the selection, modification, design, sequencing, installation, observation and evaluation of tasks. The book illustrates how task design is core to effective teaching, whether the task is a complex, extended, investigation or a small part of a lesson; whether it is part of a curriculum system, such as a textbook, or promotes free standing activity; whether the task comes from published source or is devised by the teacher or the student.
Book Synopsis Leadership, Discourse, and Ethnicity by : Janet Holmes
Download or read book Leadership, Discourse, and Ethnicity written by Janet Holmes and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2011-12-05 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in the field of workplace discourse to examine the relationships among leadership, ethnicity, and language use. Taking a social constructionist approach to the ways in which leadership is enacted through discourse, Leadership, Discourse, and Ethnicity problematizes the concept of ethnicity and demonstrates the importance of context-particularly the community of practice-in determining what counts as relevant in the analysis of ethnicity. The authors analyse everyday workplace interactions supplemented by interview data to examine the ways in which workplace leaders use language to achieve their transactional and relational goals in contrasting "ethnicized" contexts, two of which are Maori and two European/Pakeha. Their analysis pays special attention to the roles of ethnic values, beliefs and orientations in talk.

Book Synopsis High Skills : Globalization, Competitiveness, and Skill Formation by : Phillip Brown
Download or read book High Skills : Globalization, Competitiveness, and Skill Formation written by Phillip Brown and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2001-09-20 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic globalization has led to intense debates about the competitiveness of nations. Prosperity, social justice, and welfare are now seen to depend on the creation of a 'high skilled' workforce. This international consensus around high skills has led recent American presidents to claim themselves 'education presidents' and in Britain, Tony Blair has announced that 'talent is 21st-century wealth'. This view of knowledge-driven capitalism has led all the developed economies to increase numbers of highly-trained people in preparation for technical, professional, and managerial employment. But it also harbours the view that what we regard as a 'skilled' worker is being transformed. The pace of technological innovation, corporate restructuring, and the changing nature of work require a new configuration of skills described in the language of creativity, teamwork, employability, self-management, and lifelong learning. But is this optimistic account of a future of high-skilled work for all justified? This book draws on the findings of a major international comparative study of national routes to a 'high skills' economy in Britain, Germany, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States, and includes data from interviews with over 250 key stakeholders. It is the first book to offer a comparative examination of 'high skill' policies -- a topic of major public debate that is destined to become of even greater importance in all the developed economies in the early decades of the twenty-first century.

Book Synopsis Globalization and Educational Reform by : Martin Carnoy
Download or read book Globalization and Educational Reform written by Martin Carnoy and published by Unesco. This book was released on 1999 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalisation puts most governments under pressure to reduce the growth of public spending on education and to find other sources of income for the expected expansion of education systems. In conflict with this is the shift of economic production to knowledge-based intensive products and processes, meaning that the demand for higher education is rising worldwide. In addition, the need for more highly educated low cost labour tends to expand women's educational opportunities, especially in countries where there was resistance to equal access to education for them. Globalised information networks mean the transformation of world culture, but many groups feel marginalised by the market values of this new culture.
