This book was released on with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis English as a Lingua Franca in Latin American Education by : Sonia Morán Panero
Download or read book English as a Lingua Franca in Latin American Education written by Sonia Morán Panero and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2024-10-21 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ELF researchers have been describing the dynamic and fluid ways in which multilingual speakers shape English in transcultural communication for more than two decades now. While this work seriously challenges traditional, static, and prejudiced views of English, the diverse and variable nature of its uses and users continues to be undermined in many EFL programs around the world. This is also the case in many Latin American contexts, which have been described as fertile ground for native-speaker ideology, but where the body of ELF literature is still scarce when compared to Asian and European settings. This book is the first to bring together a series of empirical studies on the implications of ELF perspectives for communicative, educational, and policy-making practices across different Latin American countries. It not only explores how ELF perspectives can inform students and educators in these settings, but also how locally emerging voices, experiences, and research traditions can help expand ELF theorising as well. The volume generates new opportunities for dialogue and global collaboration between researchers and practitioners interested in ELF studies as a critical approach to English language use and education.
Book Synopsis Virtual English as a Lingua Franca by : Inmaculada Pineda
Download or read book Virtual English as a Lingua Franca written by Inmaculada Pineda and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-12 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection offers a comprehensive account of the development of intercultural communication strategies through Virtual English as a lingua franca, reflecting on the ways in which we make pragmatic meaning in today’s technology-informed globalized world. The volume places an emphasis on analyzing transmodal, trans-semiotic, and transcultural discourse practices in online spaces, providing a counterpoint to existing ELF research which has leaned towards unpacking formal features of ELF communication in face-to-face interactions. The chapters explore how these practices are characterized and then further sustained via non-verbal semiotic resources, drawing on data from a global range of empirical studies. The book prompts further reflection on readers’ own experiences in online settings and the challenges of VELF while also supplying educators in these contexts with the analytical resources to better bridge the gap between formal and informal learning. Highlighting the dynamic complexity of online intercultural communication in the twenty-first century, this book is a valuable resource for students and scholars in applied linguistics, language education, digital communication, and intercultural communication.

This book was released on 2023-12-18 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Social Justice, Decoloniality, and Southern Epistemologies within Language Education by : Vander Tavares
Download or read book Social Justice, Decoloniality, and Southern Epistemologies within Language Education written by Vander Tavares and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-03 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a strong focus on decoloniality and social justice, this volume brings together critical theories, concepts, and practices on TESOL from multiple Brazilian perspectives. The chapters showcase the work of teachers and teacher educators in confronting sociopolitical issues in Brazil, including in the domains of democracy, language education, and knowledge production, as well as prevailing issues within TESOL itself. Contributions stem from an eclectic range of analytical orientations that reflect ontological and epistemological diversity while demonstrating why, where, and how TESOL is done in Brazil. In doing so, this volume also establishes a place for Southern voices to be heard in the move toward challenging complex and long-standing issues of representation, marginalization, and exclusion that have traditionally characterised North-South relations in TESOL as a field. This volume seeks to promote Southern-based conversations about decoloniality and social justice in TESOL and will be of direct relevance to graduate students, researchers, and scholars in the field of TESOL and foreign language education.
