Esta obra pretende recopilar los textos más importantes que conforman el derecho penitenciario español vigente, con el análisis e interpretación que de su articulado han hecho el Tribunal Constitucional y el Tribunal Supremo, a fin de que investigadores en la materia penitenciaria, profesionales del ramo y estudiantes puedan acercarse a su conocimiento, encontrando en ella una herramienta útil de consulta. En total 8 normas, a las que se han sumado seis apéndices que contienen una tabla de normativa en vigor (se relacionan más de 150 normas), los textos internacionales más importantes, la jurisprudencia del Tribunal Constitucional y del Tribunal de Conflictos, las circulares e instrucciones de la Administración Penitenciaria más importantes y las circulares, instrucciones y consultas de la Fiscalía General del Estado con relevancia penitenciaria.
