Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written for college leaders at all levels as well as for trustees, this book engages the reader, via narrative and analysis, with the reflective and the practical knowledge essential to a constructive legacy. Leaders of colleges and universities hold in trust an enterprise of complex mission, governance, and outcome. Most will take office with accompanying media celebration of their past records and future promise. Each will exit with a legacy. A few will leave behind tragic legacies of defeated spirits, corrupted organizations, and shameful ethical records. In Leadership Legacy Moments, the author reflects upon the ideas, skills, and values that are essential to effective leadership so that a leader leaves behind a student body with great promise, a set of accomplishments achieved in concert with faculty and staff, and an institutional culture that inspires curiosity, courage, and compassion. Professor Bogue illustrates how ideas and values are linked in the stewardship of one of our nation's premier organizational enterprises. The book is about constructing a leadership legacy that is both effective and ethical.

Book Synopsis The Intentional Leader by : Tim Hebert
Download or read book The Intentional Leader written by Tim Hebert and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-11 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential guide to the elements that create strong leadership. From those decisive moments in which a difficult decision must be made, to the unguarded moments when our emotional, authentic selves manifest themselves for better or worse – this book explores the actions and outlooks that define leadership. The Intentional Leader clarifies that openness is key to genuinely effective leadership – as Emerson wrote, “The reason why the world lacks unity, and lies broken and in heaps, is because man is disunited with himself.” We have an overabundance of 'leaders' in our world today. But those who truly stand out are the ones who lead in a way that inspires employees to rally behind the organizational cause – whether that be developing cutting-edge technologies or selling fast food. This is Intentional Leadership, which Tim Hebert defines as clear, aligned, compassionate guidance delivered with a strong core ideology. It's responsive, not reactionary. It's inclusive, not prejudiced. It's transformational, not transactional. It's innovative, daring and inspirational leadership. Drawing upon his extensive experience as a business leader and consultant, Tim Hebert provides practical advice and broadly applicable guidance that will bolster business leaders across all industries. With an engaging combination of high-profile case studies, first-hand experiences and enlightening research, The Intentional Leader is the essential guide to cultivating an authentic, effective and sustainable approach to leadership.

Book excerpt: Generational dialogues between 40 world-renowned creatives exploring how the creative legacy of previous generations is being reinterpreted over time. Description What is this phenomenon we call ‘legacy’? This intangible inheritance that we eventually leave for our posterity? Is it the creative and intellectual heritage that one generation passes on to the next? Conceived by Lukas Feireiss, the book at hand tries to probe this open question by engaging in critical dialogue different generations of creatives, connectors and thinkers alike. In some cases, between inherent legacy of parent and child, in many cases between mentor and students, or simply between friends. Download or read book Imagic Moments written by Lee Schweninger and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Indigenous North American film Native Americans tell their own stories and thereby challenge a range of political and historical contradictions, including egregious misrepresentations by Hollywood. Although Indians in film have long been studied, especially as characters in Hollywood westerns, Indian film itself has received relatively little scholarly attention. In Imagic Moments Lee Schweninger offers a much-needed corrective, examining films in which the major inspiration, the source material, and the acting are essentially Native. Schweninger looks at a selection of mostly narrative fiction films from the United States and Canada and places them in historical and generic contexts. Exploring films such as Powwow Highway, Smoke Signals, and Skins, he argues that in and of themselves these films constitute and in fact emphatically demonstrate forms of resistance and stories of survival as they talk back to Hollywood. Self-representation itself can be seen as a valid form of resistance and as an aspect of a cinema of sovereignty in which the Indigenous peoples represented are the same people who engage in the filming and who control the camera. Despite their low budgets and often nonprofessional acting, Indigenous films succeed in being all the more engaging in their own right and are indicative of the complexity, vibrancy, and survival of myriad contemporary Native cultures.

Book Synopsis Slave Sites on Display by : Helena Woodard
Download or read book Slave Sites on Display written by Helena Woodard and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2019-08-23 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At Senegal’s House of Slaves, Barack Obama’s presidential visit renewed debate about authenticity, belonging, and the myth of return—not only for the president, but also for the slave fort itself. At the African Burial Ground National Monument in New York, up to ten thousand slave decedents lie buried beneath the area around Wall Street, which some of them helped to build and maintain. Their likely descendants, whose activism produced the monument located at that burial site, now occupy its margins. The Bench by the Road slave memorial at Sullivan’s Isle near Charleston reflects the region’s centrality in slavery’s legacy, a legacy made explicit when the murder of nine black parishioners by a white supremacist led to the removal of the Confederate flag from the state’s capitol grounds. Helena Woodard considers whether the historical slave sites that have been commemorated in the global community represent significant progress for the black community or are simply an unforgiving mirror of the present. In Slave Sites on Display: Reflecting Slavery’s Legacy through Contemporary “Flash” Moments, Woodard examines how select modern-day slave sites can be understood as contemporary “flash” moments: specific circumstances and/or seminal events that bind the past to the present. Woodard exposes the complex connections between these slave sites and the impact of race and slavery today. Though they differ from one another, all of these sites are displayed as slave memorials or monuments and function as high-profile tourist attractions. They interpret a story about the history of Atlantic slavery relative to the lived experiences of the diaspora slave descendants that organize and visit the sites.
