La obra tiene dos partes bien diferenciadas: a) seis capítulos de orden teórico en los que se encontrará de manera sucinta las principales teorías que explican la evolución humana, el desarrollo cognitivo y social del ser humano así como contenidos referidos a problemas concretos que pueden surgir a lo largo de nuestra existencia; es decir, violencia escolar y drogas; y b) tres lecturas que suponen los créditos prácticos de la presente asignatura cuya lectura y comprensión sustituye a la PEC. Los dos primeros capítulos nos muestran las principales teorías que dan cuenta del desarrollo humano (teoría piagetiana, vygotskiana, psicoanalítica de Freud, ecológica, etológica y del ciclo vital) así como una descripción del desarrollo motor; los capítulos tres y cuatro giran en torno a la descripción del desarrollo cognitivo y social del ser humano; en los dos últimos capítulos se presentan problemáticas sociales muy extendidas y que influyen de manera directa en el desarrollo: la violencia y las drogas. Al final de la obra encontrarás tres lecturas que suponen un ahondamiento en temas y conceptos descritos en los capítulos y que, a su vez, sustituye a la PEC. Con esta selección de temas y lecturas el presente libro pretende contribuir a la formación de futuros trabajadores sociales, aportándoles conocimientos básicos para comprender los motivos que inundan la conducta de las personas. Conocer parte de los recursos biológicos, cognitivos y emocionales que caracterizan al ser humano en sus distintos momentos evolutivos, será de gran ayuda para mediar de manera eficaz y adecuada en situaciones sociales complejas. Así como el planteamiento y desarrollo de estrategias dirigidas a estimular habilidades y destrezas en todos los niveles, a orientar el desarrollo metodológico de las asignaturas e involucrar al estudiante universitario como parte fundamental y activo del proceso, con el fi n de garantizar una formación de la más alta calidad y por lo tanto el logro de un mayor nivel de conciencia, también hay una singular mezcla de términos y funciones entre lo que signifi ca consejería y tutoría, ya que algunos autores indican servicio de tutoría a una clara utilización de las funciones del servicio de consejería y viceversa.
