Die Philosophie der Lebenskunst ist keine Verklärung, das Leben zur Luxusversion zu machen, es soll die Menschen ihr Leben als Kunstwerk betrachten lassen, das sie bewusst selbst gestalten können und in welchem sie mit allen Erfahrungen umgehen können. Hauptvertreter ist der bekannte Philosoph Wilhelm Schmid, sein Standartwerk Philosophie der Lebenskunst ist der Ursprung dieser Arbeit. Eine theoretische Sicht auf das gute Leben ist die Grundlage der Lebenskunst und führt deshalb im ersten Kapitel darauf hin. Die Geschichte der Philosophie der Lebenskunst wird dann durch verschiedene Philosophen aufgezeigt und im zweiten Schritt wird die Ethik auf den gesellschaftlichen Rahmen übertragen. Um das Konzept der Lebenskunst auf die Beratungssituation in Kapitel vier zu übertragen wird im Vorhinein die Soziale Arbeit und die Ethik des Guten Lebens wie auch die Berufsethik dargestellt.

Diese wissenschaftstheoretischen Sichtweisen Sozialer Arbeit werden im zweiten Kapitel den Grundzügen einer modernen Ästhetik gegenübergestellt, welche die 'Kunst als Erfahrung' in den Alltag des Menschen integriert (Dewey) und die 'Lebenskunst' nach Schmid beinhaltet. Dazu ist es zunächst notwendig, den Begriff der Ästhetik und seine historische Herleitung zu erläutern. Es werden exemplarisch Grundgedanken zur Thematik beschrieben, um so eine definitorische Eingrenzung der Ästhetik zu skizzieren. Im dritten Kapitel wird eine handlungs- und wissenschaftstheoretische Basis für eine 'lebensweltorientierte Kunsttherapie' erarbeitet. Es werden konzeptionelle Bedingungen anhand der Strukturmaximen von Thiersch sowie am Handlungskonzept von Staub-Bernasconi für die Soziale Arbeit aufgezeigt. Book excerpt: In fourth-century Greece (BCE), the debate over the nature of philosophy generated a novel claim: that the highest form of wisdom is theoria, the rational 'vision' of metaphysical truths (the 'spectator theory of knowledge'). This 2004 book offers an original analysis of the construction of 'theoretical' philosophy in fourth-century Greece. In the effort to conceptualise and legitimise theoretical philosophy, the philosophers turned to a venerable cultural practice: theoria (state pilgrimage). In this practice, an individual journeyed abroad as an official witness of sacralized spectacles. This book examines the philosophic appropriation and transformation of theoria, and analyses the competing conceptions of theoretical wisdom in fourth-century philosophy. By tracing the link between traditional and philosophic theoria, this book locates the creation of theoretical philosophy in its historical context, analysing theoria as a cultural and an intellectual practice. It develops a new, interdisciplinary approach, drawing on philosophy, history and literary studies.
