This book was released on 2022-04-04 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning Outcome Based Physiology volume 3 has two sections. Section I deals with the mechanisms involved in digestion and absorption of food, the motility of entire GIT and hepatic functions including pathophysiology of portal hypertension. Section II deals with mechanisms involved in formation and excretion of urine bringing out clearly functions of kidney as well as pathophysiology of nephrotic syndrome and renal failure. Entire subject is described in view of carefully framed learning outcomes, a unique approach in dealing with the subject, yet not compromising with the information required by MBBS student. Learning Outcome based teaching methodology is currently being utilized in several medical institutions. The language has been kept simple with no ambiguity and wherever appropriate figs have been added and relevant clinical application explained. Like the earlier two volumes (Cardiovascular & Respiratory system), I strongly trust that the content will be found extremely useful by the medical graduate, postgraduate as also the students of allied medical sciences like dentistry, pharmacy, and others. All the contributors are experienced and dedicated teachers and have put in their best. Feedback on the earlier volumes has been very encouraging which has helped immensely in going on with the project. I thank all the students, colleagues /contributors, for their valuable suggestions. Dr Neena Bhattacharya

Book excerpt: Learning Outcome Based Physiology Vol IV deals with the mechanisms involved in the sensory, motor, and higher functions of the nervous system. The whole complex system is dealt through carefully designed learning outcomes complemented with clinically applied aspects to make the subject very relevant for MBBS students. A special effort is made to further increase understanding of the subject by including thought provoking questions framed to provide an opportunity to recapitulate, conceptualize and reinforce important concepts. Additionally, some good to know information is put in boxes throughout. The entire subject of neurophysiology which most students find difficult has been made easy to understand. Experienced teachers have put in their best efforts to simplify the much dreaded ‘Nervous System’ knowledge of which is so essential for understanding not only functions of the different systems of the body but also human behavior and emotions. Authors strongly believe that the book will be very useful for the students of MBBS, BDS and allied health sciences like pharmacy, physiotherapy etc.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complexity and copious number of details that must be mastered in order to fully understand renal physiology makes this one of the most daunting and intimidating topics covered in the first year of medical school. Although this is often only a 2-4 week module during the general physiology course, it is essential that students understand the foundations of renal physiology, and general physiology texts are often not detailed enough to provide students with what they need to master this difficult subject. This first edition, and third volume in the Integrated Physiology Series, offers students a clear, clinically oriented overview of renal physiology. The lecture-style format, conversational tone, and final Integration chapter offset the difficult and intimidating nature of the subject. Chapter outlines, learning objectives, and end-of-chapter summaries highlight key concepts for easier assimilation. Other pedagogical features include clinical cases, Thought Questions, Putting It Together sections, Editor's Integration boxes, review Q&A, and online animations -- all designed specifically to reinforce clinical relevance and to challenge the student in real-world problem-solving.

Book excerpt: A high-risk pregnancy is one in which a woman and her foetus face a higher-than-normal chance of experiencing problems. These risks may be due to factors in the pregnancy itself, or they may stem from pre-existing maternal medical conditions. This book is a comprehensive guide to the management of high risk pregnancies for postgraduate medical students. It is an amalgamation of existing literature, current guidelines, and recent advances in medical technologies. Divided into 22 chapters, the text covers pathophysiology, systematic investigations, diagnosis, and appropriate management for both maternal and foetal disorders, helping trainees identify conditions that can make a pregnancy high risk. The book is highly illustrated with clinical images, diagrams and flowcharts, and features a question paper and extensive bibliography to assist learning.
