Jack Miller taught that a Christian leader should be the chief servant, and that right attitudes come only from a heart changed by an encounter with God. Miller leads his reader into a deeper understanding of the gospel and a life of humility, faith, and prayer. Miller gently challenges those called to serve as leaders to find their primary motivation in the glory of God alone. Book jacket.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership is a subject that has gained impressive visibility in the past two decades. The number of books, monographs and articles, as well as seminars, devoted to the development of one's leadership skills has been almost exponential growth. This study is an attempt to forge a full-orbed theology of Christian leadership grounded in the teaching of Scripture. What emerges from tracing the theme of leadership through the biblical record is a servanthood pattern, one that is wholly distinct from prevailing secular models. Our exposition begins with the biblical language of the servant, the term of choice for those great leaders used of God to further his saving purposes in the world. Eleven Old Testament and five New Testament leaders are profiled. The portrait of Jesus Christ focuses on three motifs that governed his training of the twelve for kingdom ministry. The Pauline letters are mined for those convictions that governed Paul's practice of leadership, both of his mission team and of the faith communities that emerged from that mission. The treatment of each leader, from Joseph to Paul, begins with a series of preliminary questions and concludes with a mini-profile that correlates the biblical data with these questions. The final chapter offers a summary profile of the servant leader, one whose character, motives and agenda align with the divine purposes. Though designed as a textbook for upper level college and seminary courses on leadership, the book's readable format is ideal for churches and parachurch organizations in their leadership training programs. The author's prayer is that this work will serve as a catalyst to call God's people back to Scripture and thereby raise up a whole new generation of authentic servant-leaders.

Book excerpt: "We didn't start the Servant Leadership Institute to become a consultant company or a leadership training company. We started it to share our knowledge of what we learned in implementing servant leadership." -- Art Barter Our journey into servant leadership began in 2004 with Art Barter's purchase of Datron World Communications. At that time, he was determined to create a new leadership environment, and over the next several years, that dream came true. With it came great success and significance. As a member of Art's leadership team, I had the privilege of participating in this culture shift to servant leadership. Through the creation of the Servant Leadership Institute, we have been able to show many aspiring servant leaders "how to do" servant leadership. One way we answered the "how-to" question was to publish a series of weekly leadership tips based on our experiences at Datron. The audience for these tips responded so positively, we decided to publish them in book form. We are honored to present the tips to you and ask you to make them a part of your leadership life. Discover how to live and lead with a servant's heart each and every day.

Book excerpt: 2020 ECPA Christian Book Award Finalist for Ministry Resources. What did Jesus really mean when he said, "Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, the servant of all" (Mark 9:35)? Servant leadership is commended by popular leadership writers and scholars. However, much of the practical, theoretical, and even theological commentary on servant leadership doesn't do the Bible justice. It fails to account for the context and history of interpretation around this often-quoted saying of Jesus. This context has everything to do with a truly biblical understanding of servant leadership, and that's what Servant of All unfolds. In a culture where greatness is often confused with fame or competence, Servant of All is a much-needed correction. This useful guide includes personal and group reflection questions, ideal for ministry training and discipleship.

I doubt you will find any book or course on leadership that delivers a more on-target message of the essential element critical to being a truly great leader. Get a copy. Read it. Be it.” —Miami Herald “A comprehensive and inspiring book presented as a servant leadership primer, action plan and how-to guide, then concludes with proof of effectiveness and inspiration to go forward. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Spirit of Servant-Leadership editors Shann Ferch and Larry Spears present an elegant and powerful approach to the nature of the leader-follower dynamic, with a specific focus on many of the most radical, life-affirming, and transformative facets of the servant-leader. In essence, The Spirit of Servant-Leadership speaks to the soul of humanity by gathering a bright symphony of voices, including some of the current thought-leaders of contemporary leadership. Among the many voices in this volume, Peter Block questions the very nature of leadership and draws people to more deeply understand the subtlety, humility, and self-transcendence required to develop one another, individually and collectively. Larry C. Spears delves into the rich earth of holistic servant-leadership, and creates multidimensional growth and healing for the heart, mind, and spirit. Margaret Wheatley calls people to deeply consider the interior formation of leaders that create greater transparency, less command and control, and more willingness to be sincerely changed by others. James Autry unveils important truths about the process of insight involved in true servant-leadership, and Shann Ferch speaks to the nature of intimacy and the profound questions of forgiveness between people, cultures, and nations. Robert Greenleaf, former AT & T executive and the contemporary founder of servant-leadership said, "Behind every great achievement is a dreamer of great dreams." The Spirit of Servant-Leadership affirms people in all the complexity and nuance of the human endeavor, and helps renew in readers the ability to dream great dreams. +
