Book excerpt: When Marc Sangnier died in Paris in 1950 and was buried in Notre Dame, the streets nearby filled with people who could not get into the cathedral. Before his death, the French government awarded Sangnier the Légion d’honneur, pinned to his lapel by François Mauriac, a former silloniste who became a noted man of letters. Le Sillon was a French political and religious movement founded by Sangnier, which existed from 1894 to 1910. It aimed to bring Catholicism into a greater conformity with French Republican and socialist ideals, in order to provide an alternative to Marxism and other anticlerical labour movements. This volume details the discovery of le Sillon as a lay movement in France that issued from the leadership of brilliant young students at the turn of the twentieth century. As they matured so did the aims of the movement, and they became an educational force that encouraged both the privileged and worker alike to join together in playing leadership roles in unions, then dominated by the anti-clerical left. Their activities brought them into conflict with the French hierarchy and the papacy itself and matured into an expression of Christian economic democracy that challenged Catholic hierarchical norms.

Book Synopsis Fault Injection Techniques and Tools for Embedded Systems Reliability Evaluation by : Alfredo Benso

This book was released on 2003-10-31 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our society is faced with an increasing dependence on computing systems, not only in high tech consumer applications but also in areas (e.g., air and railway traffic control, nuclear plant control, aircraft and car control) where a failure can be critical for the safety of human beings. Unfortunately, it is accepted that large digital systems cannot be fault-free. Some faults may be attributed to inaccuracy during the development, while others can come from external causes such as environmental stress. Radiations, electromagnetic interference and power glitches are some of the most common causes of transient faults. As a consequence, the past years have seen a growing interest in methods for studying the behaviour of computer-based systems when faults occur, and several approaches have been proposed to evaluate the dependability properties of a computer-based system. Fault Injection, i.e., the artificial injection of faults into a computer system in order to study its behaviour, emerged as a viable solution, and has been deeply investigated by both academia and industry. Different techniques have been proposed and some of them practically experimented. Fault Injection Techniques and Tools for Embedded Systems Reliability Evaluation intends to be a comprehensive guide to Fault Injection techniques used to evaluate the dependability of a digital system. The description and the critical analysis of different Fault Injection techniques and tools will be authored by key scientists in the field of system dependability and fault tolerance.

Book Synopsis The Regionalist Movement in France, 1890-1914 by : Julian Wright
Download or read book The Regionalist Movement in France, 1890-1914 written by Julian Wright and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first full academic study of the political thought of the French regionalist movement in the Belle Epoque. Julian Wright has examined the private papers of Jean Charles-Brun, founder of the Federation Regionaliste Francaise, in detail. He has rethought the conceptual basis ofregionalism through Charles-Brun's intellectual biography, showing that it penetrated the political debates of the period as a commonplace in Republican arguments about state reform. Despite the often made association of regionalism with the right, Dr Wright reveals the diversity of political viewsexpressed, and demonstrates that the connection to left-wing federalism ws emphatically present in the intellectual background.Interwoven with this discussion is an examination of the personal mission of Charles-Brun. He saw himself as a reconciler, using his regionalism within a mission to heal the divisions of French politics and society. He argued that France's instability stemmed from an obsession with reforms thatfollowed a priori political models, and that politicians who sought to rethink the shape of the Republic needed to attend to the cultural or economic realities expressed in France's regions. Charles-Brun and his regionalist movement continue to have resonance in current debates aboutdecentralization in France.

Book excerpt: Neuropathology, Volume IV presents the proceedings of the First International Congress of Neurological Sciences, held in Brussels, Belgium, on July 21–28, 1957. This book provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of neuropathology. Organized into 84 chapters, this compilation of papers begins with an overview of the problem of multiple sclerosis and its relationship to leucodystrophies. This text then explains the two major histopathological manifestations of the injury caused by the rabies virus in the central nervous system. Other chapters consider the successful identification and isolation of a biologically active compound, which depends to a large extent on the availability of a quantitative bioassay. This book discusses as well the clinical manifestations, pathogenesis, and treatment of multiple sclerosis. The final chapter deals with the study of nucleic acids as well as histochemistry as a method of histological inquiry. This book is a valuable resource for neuropsychiatrists, biochemists, physicians, and scientists.
