Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This striking collection of scholarly essays highlights the hermeneutic contribution of the French theologian and sociologist Jacques Ellul, revealing him to be one of the twentieth century's most creative and insightful readers of the Bible. With a breadth of contributors ranging from established biblical scholars and theologians to pastoral practitioners, from top Ellul scholars to emerging voices--and including six first-time English translations of Ellul's own articles--this volume not only provides a detailed overview of Ellul's biblical approach but also constitutes a crucial moment in Ellul's theological reception. This book counts as a clear demonstration that the full potential of Ellul's theological interpretation of Scripture to rejuvenate and reconfigure contemporary biblical hermeneutics has yet to be seen. Book Synopsis Finding Grace with God by : Rose Ellen Dunn
Download or read book Finding Grace with God written by Rose Ellen Dunn and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-07-30 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finding Grace with God: A Phenomenological Reading of the Annunciation engages in an interweaving of phenomenology, mystical theology, and feminist philosophy to unfold a theopoetic interpretation of the narrative of the Annunciation in the Gospel of Luke. It begins with a discussion of the foundational phenomenologies of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger and then moves to the more recent work of several French phenomenologists, including Paul Ricoeur, Jean-Louis Chretien, and Michel Henry. The interpretation is then expanded through the philosophies of Luce Irigaray, Jean-Luc Marion, and Jacques Derrida. Finally, the phenomenologies of Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Martin Heidegger provide a means to interpret the Annunciation through theopoetics, as a text that is infused with possibility. Mary, filled with grace, is beckoned by the divine into possibility; responding in grace, she in turn beckons the divine into possibility. Transgressing the limits of language, this possibility slips into apophasis--into a moment of Gelassenheit, a mutual "letting-be" or releasement of Mary and the divine into a mystical union of love, a love that becomes manifest through a gift of life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Luc Claessens
Book Synopsis Negative Knowledge by : Sebastian Hüsch
Download or read book Negative Knowledge written by Sebastian Hüsch and published by Narr Francke Attempto Verlag. This book was released on 2020-08-10 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of Modernity was accompanied by a radical criticism of traditional metaphysics. In particular since the 20th century, rationality is predominantly conceived of as positivistic and scientistic, reducing reality to what is positively knowable. The price to pay is the cutting out of any kind of phenomenon of negativity. The present volume explicitly explores the philosophical and epistemological potential of negativity. The contributions brought together in this book tackle the question of negativity from historical as well as from systematical perspectives. From different angles, they defend the claim that philosophical approaches recurring to negativity can build a non-reductive conceptualization of rationality, and thus offer a valuable contribution to the orientation of humankind in the 20th and 21st century. This volume contains contributions in English, French, and German.
