Book Synopsis A Time for Critique by : Bernard E. Harcourt
Download or read book A Time for Critique written by Bernard E. Harcourt and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world of political upheaval, rising inequality, catastrophic climate change, and widespread doubt of even the most authoritative sources of information, is there a place for critique? This book calls for a systematic reappraisal of critical thinking—its assumptions, its practices, its genealogy, its predicament—following the principle that critique can only start with self-critique. In A Time for Critique, Didier Fassin, Bernard E. Harcourt, and a group of eminent political theorists, anthropologists, sociologists, philosophers, and literary and legal scholars reflect on the multiplying contexts and forms of critical discourse and on the social actors and social movements engaged in them. How can one maintain sufficient distance from the eventful present without doing it an injustice? How can one address contemporary issues without repudiating the intellectual legacies of the past? How can one avoid the disconnection between theory and action? How can critique be both public and collective? These provocative questions are addressed by revisiting the works of Foucault and Arendt, Said and Césaire, Benjamin and Du Bois, but they are also given substance through on-the-ground case studies that treat subaltern criticism in Palestine, emancipatory mobilizations in Syria, the antitorture campaigns of Sri Lankan activists, and the abolitionism of the African American critical resistance and undercommons movements in the United States. Examining lucidly the present challenges of critique, A Time for Critique shows how its theoretical reassessment and its emerging forms can illuminate the imaginative modalities to rejuvenate critical praxis.
Book Synopsis Psychoanalysis and Projective Methods in Personality Assessment by : Benoît Verdon
Download or read book Psychoanalysis and Projective Methods in Personality Assessment written by Benoît Verdon and published by Hogrefe Publishing GmbH. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book synthesizes the work of leading thinkers of the French School of psychoanalytical projective methods in personality assessment. The French School is a direct successor to Rorschach's and Murray's original approaches using the Rorschach Test and the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). Underlying this method is the idea of the coexistence of conscious and unconscious processes, of opposite instinctual pairs, and of agents that are ruled by conflicts (Freud). Transitional activity is seen as part of an intermediate space, a mediator space, and bearer of messages between the subject and the clinician (Winnicott). This book brings to life the important contributions of the French School, firstly exploring its theories and methods and then its clinical applications. Detailed case studies from different stages of life examine the psychopathology of everyday life with its severe and disabling states of suffering. Contemporary advances in research and clinical work are presented, and the groundbreaking early work of Nina Rausch de Traubenberg, Vica Shentoub, and Rosine Debray are also critically reread and discussed. Clinical tools adapted for clinicians and researchers in the appendices include a useful schema to facilitate the interpretation of the Rorschach and TAT together, a list of latent solicitations for the TAT, and the current version of the TAT Scoring Grid. This book is essential reading for clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, researchers, and students interested in applying psychoanalytical theory to projective methods.
Download or read book The Skin-Ego written by Didier Anzieu and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-15 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this classic work, the author presents and develops his theory of the importance of 'the Skin-ego'. Just as the skin is wrapped around the body, so the author sees the 'Skin-ego' as a psychical wrapping containing, defining and consolidating the subject. From this perspective, the structure and functions of the skin can provide psychoanalysts and general readers with a fertile and practical metaphor. The author's concept of the Skin-ego is the answer to questions he regards as crucial to contemporary psychoanalysis: questions of topography which were left incomplete by Freud; the analysis of fantasies of the container as of the contained; issues of touch between mothers and babies; extending the concept of prohibitions within an Oedipal framework to those derived from a prohibition on touching; and questions pertaining to the representation of the body and to its psychoanalytic setting. This new translation of Le Moi-peau is based on the second and last (1995) edition.

Download or read book L'imaginaire Mélancolique de Samuel Beckett, de Murphy À Comment C'est written by Yann Mével and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2008 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Body Psychotherapy in Progressive and Chronic Disorders by : Christa D. Ventling
Download or read book Body Psychotherapy in Progressive and Chronic Disorders written by Christa D. Ventling and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Body-oriented psychotherapy recognises the continuity and deep connections between mind and body, psyche and soma. This concept is of key significance in the treatment of patients suffering from irreversible disorders like diabetes or infertility or from a progressive disease like multiple sclerosis, aids or cancer. Such a diagnosis is hard to accept. Body psychotherapists using special techniques can often achieve a deepened body consciousness in the patient leading to new insights and hence an altered state of mind. The papers presented here testify to the beneficial effects of the therapies and the improvement of the quality of life in spite of the irreversible somatic condition or the time left to live. Furthermore, the on-going process in the treating therapist is highlighted. Readers will appreciate the candid accounts of the therapists concerns for their patients, their reflections on health, on the impending threat of death as well as on the spiritual aspects of dying. Psychotherapists of all disciplines, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, oncologists, neurologists, general practitioners as well as medical students will find this publication different, educational and inspiring.
