This book was released on 2015-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing the evolutionary history and classification in the planktic foraminifera of the Late Cretaceous age also led to the proliferation of taxa names and an unprecedented expansion in terminology. This new data is spread out over several tens of articles published in international journals and books. Handbook of Late Cretaceous Planktic Foraminifera (Practical Classification, Biostratigraphy) brings a variety of this data into the practical field in a ready-to-use form. The species and genera of all the Cretaceous planktic foraminiferal groups are described and illustrated, and additional readings are recommended. Each species is dedicated to one of the 237 plates illustrated with high-quality scanning, electron microscope photographs. The large-sized illustrations are designed to allow the reader to connect quickly with the gross test architecture data with those pertaining to the wall ultrastructure, ornamentation, porosity and high detail morphological features of the test. Fossil material was collected from a variety of localities worldwide, but most of them are from sites in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. With higher than 95% of estimated coverage, the handbook is designed as a useful identification tool for a variety of professionals interested in using the Late Cretaceous planktic foraminifera. Revised stratigraphical ranges for all the 237 species are given in a chart calibrated on the classical Cretaceous Stage/Age scale in which the species are ordered by genus.

Nebrigic and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diversification- and diversity reduction-bioevents within planktic foraminifera assemblages during the major Cenomanian-Turonian world-wide environmental perturbances have been observed during the course of this study. The well studied stratigraphic sequence of the Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway and adjacent Gulf Coastal Plain of North America provides a unique opportunity to document and test the temporal aspects of diverse bioevents of regional and global scale, and especially those with very short time spans. Major planktic foraminiferal bioevents of forty four species have been utilized to establish a biostratigraphic framework for both of the basins and to be correlated with multitaxial biostratigraphic plots established for this time interval. The revision of established a biostratigraphic framework based on ammonites would be a necessary step to enhance foraminiferal biostratigraphy for this time interval.

Book Synopsis At the Top of the Grand Staircase by : Alan L. Titus
Download or read book At the Top of the Grand Staircase written by Alan L. Titus and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-09 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is the location of one of the best-known terrestrial records for the late Cretaceous. Prior fieldwork confirmed the richness of the area, but a major effort begun in the new century has documented over 2,000 new vertebrate fossil sites, provided new radiometric dates, and identified five new genera of ceratopsids, two new species of hadrosaur, a probable new genus of hypsilophodontid, new pachycephalosaurs and ankylosaurs, several kinds of theropods (including a new genus of oviraptor and a new tyrannosaur), plus the most complete specimen of a Late Cretaceous therizinosaur ever collected from North America, and much more. The research documented in this book is rewriting our understanding of Late Cretaceous paleobiogeography and dinosaur phyletics. At the Top of the Grand Staircase: The Late Cretaceous of Southern Utah is a major stepping stone toward a total synthesis of the ecology and evolution of the Late Cretaceous ecosystems of western North America.
Book Synopsis Evolutionary Classification and English-based Nomenclature in Cretaceous Planktic Foraminifera by : M. Dan Georgescu
Download or read book Evolutionary Classification and English-based Nomenclature in Cretaceous Planktic Foraminifera written by M. Dan Georgescu and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2014-01-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, evolutionary classification and nomenclature in the Cretaceous planktic foraminifera with at least one stage with chambers alternately added with respect to the test growth axis are analysed in seven articles. The first article in this book presents new data about the group's evolutionary origin and different aspects of the iterative evolution of the planktic habitat in the foraminiferal history, together with a critical review of some past ideas on this topic. A new benthic foraminiferal genus is described. The evolution of different lineages is presented in five successive articles, which show the importance of high resolution data in reconstructing the group's evolutionary history. Four new lineages are described. A new perspective on the classification of the planktic foraminifera is presented in the last article, where at the scale of the entire group a new and upward evolutionary classification, is applied. The fundamental unit of organisation is changed from species to lineage through a shift at paradigm level in understanding the evolution of the fossil record. In further developments in evolutionary classification, a new nomenclature system is applied. The new nomenclature uses English instead of Latin and has a rate of compression of around 1:18 (one English word for 18 Latin words).
