Book excerpt: Designed for K-5 classrooms, these creative bulletin board ideas link Bible themes to classwork. The authors have created 110 different concepts, with complete instructions and illustrations. Following the school year, the bulletin boards can be used as springboards to promote discussion and as reminders of the central message in a particular lesson. The authors have also outlined ideas for classroom activities, suggestions for appropriate books, field trip ideas, party plans, cooperative learning activities, and Web sites. Faith lessons are generously sprinkled throughout. A section called "Bible Heroes from A to Z" provides brief retellings of heroic deeds that bring Bible heroes to life. Even students who know their Bible well will enjoy these 5-minute short stories. The Bible has been a teaching tool since it was written, and Good News: Thematic Bulletin Boards for Christian Classrooms makes it easy.

This book was released on 2010-09-21 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The abundance of information and increase in computing power currently enable researchers to tackle highly complicated and challenging computational problems. Solutions to such problems are now feasible using advances and innovations from the area of Artificial Intelligence. The general focus of the AIAI conference is to provide insights on how Artificial Intelligence may be applied in real-world situations and serve the study, analysis and modeling of theoretical and practical issues. This volume contains papers selected for presentation at the 6th IFIP Conference on Artificial Intelligence Applications and Innovations (AIAI 2010) and held in Larnaca, Cyprus, during October 6–7, 2010. IFIP AIAI 2010 was co-organized by the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus University of Technology and was sponsored by the Cyprus University of Technology, Frederick University and the Cyprus Tourism Organization. AIAI 2010 is the official conference of the WG12.5 “Artificial Intel- gence Applications” working group of IFIP TC12, the International Federation for Information Processing Technical Committee on Artificial Intelligence (AI). AIAI is a conference that grows in significance every year attracting researchers from different countries around the globe. It maintains high quality, standards and welcomes research papers describing technical advances and engineering and ind- trial applications of intelligent systems. AIAI 2010 was not confined to introducing how AI may be applied in real-life situations, but also included innovative methods, techniques, tools and ideas of AI expressed at the algorithmic or systemic level.

Download or read book Myths of Harmony written by Marixa Lasso and published by University of Pittsburgh Pre. This book was released on 2007-08-12 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book centers on a foundational moment for Latin American racial constructs. While most contemporary scholarship has focused the explanation for racial tolerance-or its lack-in the colonial period, Marixa Lasso argues that the key to understanding the origins of modern race relations are to be found later, in the Age of Revolution.Lasso rejects the common assumption that subalterns were passive and alienated from Creole-led patriot movements, and instead demonstrates that during Colombia's revolution, free blacks and mulattos (pardos) actively joined and occasionally even led the cause to overthrow the Spanish colonial government. As part of their platform, patriots declared legal racial equality for all citizens, and promulgated an ideology of harmony and fraternity for Colombians of all colors. The fact that blacks were mentioned as equals in the discourse of the revolution and later served in republican government posts was a radical political departure. These factors were instrumental in constructing a powerful myth of racial equality-a myth that would fuel revolutionary activity throughout Latin America. Thus emerged a historical paradox central to Latin American nation-building: the coexistence of the principle of racial equality with actual racism at the very inception of the republic. Ironically, the discourse of equality meant that grievances of racial discrimination were construed as unpatriotic and divisive acts-in its most extreme form, blacks were accused of preparing a race war. Lasso's work brings much-needed attention to the important role of the anticolonial struggles in shaping the nature of contemporary race relations and racial identities in Latin America.
