Book excerpt: Much of the infrastructure of modern society is buried below ground. Pipeline, conduits and culverts carry the services on which our economies depend and the strength and resilience of such structures is of vital importance. Larger underground construction is becoming more common in cities and towns, and in defence installations. This book brings t

Book Synopsis Rock Dynamics and Applications 3 by : Charlie C. Li
Download or read book Rock Dynamics and Applications 3 written by Charlie C. Li and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-06-18 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rock Dynamics – Experiments, Theories and Applications is a collection of scientific and technical papers presented at the Third International Conference on Rock Dynamics and Applications (RocDyn-3, Trondheim, Norway, 26-27 June 2018). The papers in the book reflect the recent developments in experiment and theory as well as engineering applications of rock dynamics. Rock dynamics studies the response of rock and rock masses under dynamic loading and during the state transition from static loading to kinetic movement. It also includes the study of engineering countermeasures to dynamic instability of rock and rock masses. The topics in the book include: - Dynamic theories - Numerical simulation - Propagation of stress waves - Dynamic tests of rock - Stability of underground openings under dynamic loading - Rockburst - Seismic monitoring - Dynamic rock support - Blasting - Earthquake-related rock structure damage, etc. Applications, such as rockburst, dynamic rock support, seismic monitoring, blasting and earthquake-related rock structure damage, are paid special attention in Rock Dynamics – Experiments, Theories and Applications. The papers, from specialists both from mining and tunnelling branches, discuss commonly interested dynamic issues. Their experience and knowledge in the application of rock dynamics are extremely valuable for all academics, engineers and professionals who work with rock dynamics.

Book Synopsis UNDERGROUND EXPLOSION EFFECTS. by : D. C. Sachs
Download or read book UNDERGROUND EXPLOSION EFFECTS. written by D. C. Sachs and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project 1.7 of Operation TEAPOT was concerned with the measurement of surface and subsurface effects of an underground explosion of a 1.2-kt nuclear burst (Shot 7). The measurements included free-field earth and airblast effects, as well as loading on underground structural devices. This report deals with the presentation and analysis of the free-field data only; the structural data have been transmitted to the appropriate agencies for their analysis. From the 76 channels installed on TEAPOT Shot 7, 75 usable records were obtained. The free-field quantities measured include air-blast pressure, earth acceleration, earth stress and strain, and permanent earth displacement. The results are discussed by phenomenon and, in each case, the TEAPOT data are compared with pretest predictions. Also, where data are available, comparisons are made with previous underground nuclear test results. Some aspects of seismology and soil mechanics as applied to underground explosion phenomena are presented and, finally, the most pertinent high explosives results from subsequent tests conducted at the TEAPOT location are summarized. Book Synopsis Influence of Shield Tunneling on Adjacent Structures and Control Technology by : Zhi Ding
Download or read book Influence of Shield Tunneling on Adjacent Structures and Control Technology written by Zhi Ding and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-15 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the synergy theory model to analyze the calculation results of the soil deformation and the lateral displacement law caused by the longitudinal shield tunneling based on in-depth scientific research and engineering practice on deformation of structures caused by shield tunneling. The influence of shield tunneling on different adjacent foundation buildings was studied, and the deformation law and internal force distribution law of the structures were obtained. It aims to help practitioners in understanding the mechanism, predictive analysis method, and corresponding control technology of the influence of surrounding structures’ deformation caused by shield tunneling.
Book Synopsis Explosive Blast Injuries by : Zhengguo Wang

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic summary of a series of achievements of blast injury studies in China and the latest progress in blast injury treatment including injuries caused by various explosion accidents (such as coal mine gas explosion, and chemical explosion) and terrorist bombing around the world over the past three decades. The book not only covers comprehensive introductions to the knowledge and injury theories about explosive shock waves, but also expounds the prevention and treatment of various explosion shock injuries and their complications with generalized summaries. This book not only contains a diverse range of content, but also immense practicality. It elaborates on the causes of various types of explosion and impact injuries, as well as protection and treatment measures, serving not only as an important basis and technical support for military health service support in modern warfare, but is also extremely important in providing practical value in peacetime disaster prevention, mitigation and relief for patients.
