As far back as anyone could trace, each generation had ever only one son until the current generation when there was no brother to carry on the family name. As a result, she inherited the title, and all that went with it. She had everything - intelligence, beauty, wealth, and position. When she came out into society, she was the target of every fortune-hunter in town who thought she could be flattered or bullied into marriage. But Lady Alexandra was not interested in either the flatterers or the bullies. She was looking for love and respect. Lord Sir Marcus Scott, Baron of Vintington was intelligent, passably good looking and moderately wealthy. He was a scholar and spent most of his time on his estate tinkering with his inventions. But, when necessary, he could explode into action. He was confident in himself and his abilities - except when it came to the lady he loved. When they met, he thought that Lady Alexandra was perfection but completely out of his league and was content to be counted her friend. Lady Alexandra disagreed - and the hunt was on. While this story is set in the P&P universe of the Denton Connection and some of the characters from those stories make cameo appearances, it is completely original and can be read as a standalone. I hope you enjoy Lady Alexandra's hunt for happiness.

Book excerpt: Embark on the breathtaking romantic adventures of The Lady Travelers Society in the brand–new series by No.1 New York Times bestselling author Victoria Alexander Really, it's too much to expect any normal man to behave like a staid accountant in order to inherit the fortune he deserves to support the lifestyle of an earl. So when Derek Saunders's favorite elderly aunt and her ill–conceived – and possibly fraudulent – Lady Travelers Society loses one of their members, what's a man to do but step up to the challenge? Now he's escorting the world's most maddening woman to the world's most romantic city to find her missing relative. While India Prendergast only suspects his organisation defrauds gullible travelers, she's certain a man with as scandalous a reputation as Derek Saunders cannot be trusted any farther than the distance around his very broad shoulders. As she struggles not to be distracted by his wicked smile and the allure of Paris, instead of finding a lost lady traveler, India just may lose her head, her luggage and her heart.

Alexandra Lamour’s The Long-Kept Secret is a romance fiction novel based on the Montgomerys during and after the American Civil War, and the mid-Victorian Era. The story commences with the love story of Lord and Lady Montgomery who emigrate from England to America for a great business opportunity. Their lives end during the war leaving their daughters Fuchsia and Suzanna to rebuild their Charleston tobacco plantation to an even more spectacular site. Suzanna Montgomery becomes the sole survivor of the family’s fortune after her sister dies of scarlet fever taking the long-kept secret with her to the grave. As Suzanna battles against many obstacles, including heartbreak, her astounding beauty, wit, and determination lead her to the man of her dreams-one of the most sought-after bachelors in all of England, Lord Richard Waterford. The couple’s regal marriage in England, an invitation to the notorious Queen Victoria’s high society ball and partaking in a fox hunt add enchantment and adventure to the story. The plot thickens when the mischievous Lady Merisel, Suzanna’s bitter and jealous sister-in-law uncovers the long-kept secret. Suzanna is forced to come to grips with the new revelation of her identity and to make a heartbreaking choice as true love is tested withstanding the truth of the long-kept secret. Suzanna’s stamina and indomitable will make her a role model for any woman of the past or present. Throughout the story, the reader feels that there is a little bit of Suzanna in every woman if we take the time to examine the human condition.

Book excerpt: Cats and women share many traits: beauty, elegance, sensitivity, affectionate natures, a knack for nurturing and a love of the luxurious. Cats also embody the feminine dark side, with a tendency towards neurosis and fear of change. Then there are the qualities that cats possess which women long to emulate: fighting fiercely to protect themselves, never saying yes when they mean no, and being unafraid to claim the best seat in the house. Cats are loyal to those who love them but couldn't give a toss about what others think. They don't suffer self-esteem issues or worry if they're overweight. And then there is that enviable air of mystery, that slinky walk . . . oh to be a cat! They're the ultimate totem of female strength. Belinda Alexandra, writer and ardent cat lover, makes no apology for celebrating the special bond between women and their cats. In The Divine Feline, she shares her own experiences with cats, describes the relationship between women and cats throughout history and solves behavioural and philosophical issues in a whimsical and practical way. Viva la cat lady!

It’s a devil of an inheritance, but in the grand ruins of the one building Derring left her, are the seeds of her liberation. And she vows never again to place herself at the mercy of a man. But battle-hardened Captain Tristan Hardy is nothing if not merciless. When the charismatic naval hero tracks a notorious smuggler to a London boarding house known as the Rogue’s Palace, seducing the beautiful, blue-blooded proprietress to get his man seems like a small sacrifice. They both believe love is a myth. But a desire beyond reason threatens to destroy the armor around their hearts. Now a shattering decision looms: Will Tristan betray his own code of honor…or choose a love that might be the truest thing he’s ever known?

Book excerpt: In the field of seventeenth-century English drama, women participated not only as spectators or readers, but more and more as patronesses, as playwrights, and later on as actresses and even as managers. This study examines English women writers' tragedies and tragicomedies in the seventeenth century, specifically between 1613 and 1713, which represent the publication dates of the first original tragedy (Elizabeth Cary's The Tragedy of Mariam) and the last one (Anne Finch's Aristomenes) written by a Stuart woman playwright. Through this one-hundred year period, major changes in dramatic form and ideology are traced in women's tragedies and tragicomedies. In examining the whole of the century from a gender perspective, this project breaks away from conventional approaches to the subject, which tend to establish an unbridgeable gap between the early Stuart period and the Restoration. All in all, this study represents a major overhaul of current theories of the evolution of English drama as well as offering an unprecedented reconstruction of the genealogy of seventeenth-century English women playwrights.
