Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The most useful single volume on wine ever published... If I owned only one wine book, it would be this one." - Andrew Jefford, Decanter Few wine books can be called classic, but the first edition of The World Atlas of Wine made publishing history when it appeared in 1971. It is recognized by critics as the essential and most authoritative wine reference work available. This eighth edition will bring readers, both old and new, up to date with the world of wine. To reflect all the changes in the global wine scene over the past six years, the Atlas has grown in size to 416 pages and 22 new maps have been added to the wealth of superb cartography in the book. The text has been given a complete overhaul to address the topics of most vital interest to today's wine-growers and drinkers. With beautiful photography throughout, Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson, the world's most respected wine-writing duo, have once again joined forces to create a classic that no wine lover can afford to be without. "The World Atlas of Wine is the single most important reference book on the shelf of any wine student." - Eric Asimov, New York Times "Like a good bottle of wine, you'll find yourself going back to it again and again... Perfect for anyone who has a thirst for greater wine knowledge." - Edward Deitch, NBC/today.com "The World Atlas of Wine belongs on your shelf... The essential rootstock of any true wine lover's library. A multi-layered snapshot of wine and how it has evolved." - Dave McIntyre, Washington Post

Book excerpt: Finally in paperback, here is the classic tome on wine by world-renowned wine expert and connoisseur Hugh Johnson. When it was first published nearly twenty years ago, "Wine" was universally acclaimed as a suburb guide to the appreciation and understanding of wine. Today it is still firmly established as the classic in its field. Hugh Johnson traces the entire process of wine-making from grape to table, discussing soil, vintages, shipping, bottling and the selling-the fascinating and essential background knowledge that enables every wine lover to make the most of what he is buying, storing and drinking. The author also takes an entertaining look at the history and lore of wine-making - How did Dom Perignon discover the secret of making champagne? What role do American vines play in the history of French wine? With sixteen pages of vivid, full-color photographs illustrating the story of wine, up-to-the-minute vintage charts, and Hugh Johnson's clear, enthusiastic style, "Wine" remains unchallenged as the finest contemporary essay on the subject.

Book excerpt: The Pet Shop Boys are one of the most successful and unusual bands of the last five decades. They are the pop duo that proves pop music can be modern, ecstatic and playful as well as serious and intelligent, winning them legions of devoted fans throughout the world. In 1989, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe invited journalist Chris Heath and photographer Lawrence Watson to shadow them around Hong Kong, Japan and the UK as they embarked on their first-ever tour. This book is the result: an immersive portrait giving access into the duo’s inner sanctum, showing them in brilliantly observed detail as they work, relax, gossip, argue and occasionally try to make sense of what they do. ‘As clear a picture as could be wished for of the seething mass of elegant contradictions that is the Pet Shop Boys’ on-the-road experience.’ Independent on Sunday ‘This superbly reported book transcends tired rock journalism cliché. It’s about what it means to be a pop star, what it means to be a Pet Shop Boy... how to love pop, hold it to a higher standard and subvert its expectations.’ Laura Snapes
