Book Synopsis Transference and Countertransference Today by : Robert Oelsner
Download or read book Transference and Countertransference Today written by Robert Oelsner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-26 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why has Heinrich Racker’s original work on transference and countertransference proven so valuable? With a passionate concern for the field created by the meeting of analyst and patient, and an abiding interest in the central importance of transference and countertransference in analytic practice, Robert Oelsner has brought together the thought and work of seventeen eminent analysts from Europe, the United States, and Latin America. In new essays commissioned for this volume, the writers have set aside the lines that can often divide psychoanalytic groups and schools in order to examine in depth the variety of approaches and responses that characterize the best analytic practice today. The result is a collection of fresh, contemporary material centred on the two interrelated subjects – transference and countertransference – that make up the core of psychoanalytic work. Both in the clarity of their language and in moving clinical examples the writers reveal, in distinctively personal ways, how Heinrich Racker’s original thought, which brought the analyst’s unconscious responses into the equation, has allowed them to evolve their own perspectives. Yet it is particularly interesting to find unexpected parallels among the chapters that point toward a shared vision. Clearly, whether in work with adults or children, transference and countertransference are now seen as encompassing a field that embraces both participants in the consulting room. Making Transference and Countertransference Today still more valuable as a resource for teachers and students are several major contributions by authors whose work is not otherwise readily available in English. Psychoanalysts and others will find few other books that present such a thoughtful picture of these crucial and fascinating analytic topics.

Download or read book Indecent Theology written by Marcella Althaus-Reid and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-09-11 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indecent Theology brings liberation theology up to date by introducing the radical critical approaches of gender, postcolonial, and queer theory. Grounded in actual examples from Latin America, Marcella Althaus-Reid's highly provocative, but immaculately researched book reworks three distinct areas of theology - sexual, political and systematic. It exposes the connections between theology, sexuality and politics, whilst initiating a dramatic sexual rereading of systematic theology. Groundbreaking, intriguing and scholarly, Indecent Theology broadens the debate on sexuality and theology as never before.
Book Synopsis In the Analyst's Consulting Room by : Antonino Ferro
Download or read book In the Analyst's Consulting Room written by Antonino Ferro and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Bi-Personal Field: Experiences in Child Analysis, Antonino Ferro devised a new model of the relationship between patient and analyst. In the Analyst's Consulting Room complements and develops this model by concentrating on adults. From the standpoint of the "analytic field", Antonino Ferro explores basic psychoanalytic concepts, such as criteria for analysability and ending the analysis, transformations that occur during the session, the impasse and negative therapeutic reactions, sexuality and setting. The author explores certain themes in greater depth, including: * ways in which characters that appear during sessions can be interpreted * continual indications given by the patient during the emotional upheavals of the field * the function of "narrator" which the analyst takes on to mark the boundaries of the possible worlds. Through clinical narrative, Ferro renders Bion's often complex ideas in a very personal and accessible way, making this book invaluable for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, psychiatrists and psychologists.

Book Synopsis On the Shoulders of Freud by : Roberto Speziale-Bagliacca
Download or read book On the Shoulders of Freud written by Roberto Speziale-Bagliacca and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking his title from a saying of the French philosopher Bernard de Chartres that "even dwarfs on the shoulders of giants can see farther than them," the author offers a brilliant new reading of the history of psychoanalysis. Roberto Speziale-Bagliacca exploits Sigmund Freud's fundamental stature, but rejects the common belief that "orthodox" psychoanalysis begins and ends with its founder. The author attempts to "see farther" than those who deny the advances and radical epistemological ruptures that have enriched and modified psychoanalysis after Freud. He also rejects the presumptions of those who condemn Freud for having "missed" much that only today is held to be true in psychoanalytic theory. In the author's view the relatively slow development of new ideas in psychoanalysis is traceable to what he terms "closure"-the narrow authoritarianism with which Freud's and his first followers protected the validity and basic outline of his method. Aware that a new approach to the understanding of the Freudian revolution means challenging this authoritarianism, Speziale-Bagliacca analyzes three chapters of the history of psychoanalysis to test its resilience: the Eissler-Roazen controversy over the suicide of Freud's pupil Victor Tausk, the case of the Wolf-Man analyzed by Freud, and the personality of Jacques Lacan and its influence on his writing and teaching method. In each instance, the author demonstrates how psychoanalytic knowledge runs the risk of becoming a closed system, a sort of secret society. To Speziale-Bagliacca, Freud is not infallible, but his "dethroning" must be conducted with courage, honesty, and an awareness of the inevitable anxiety that such an operation imposes. "On Freud's Shoulders "is an authoritative work on the complex ways in which psychoanalysis can look at its history and improve its therapeutic approach.
Book Synopsis Countertransference by : Athina Alexandris
Download or read book Countertransference written by Athina Alexandris and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-26 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of papers on the Oedipus complex, divided into three parts: theory, practice and supervision. The contributors, who include Joyce McDougall, Hanna Segal, Otto Kernberg and Leon Grinberg, invite the reader to explore with them the processes affecting the therapist's mind - and, occasionally his body - during psychoanalytic therapy, and the reasons why the therapist thinks, feels, and reacts in a particular way. The full significance of these processes, referred to as "counter-transference" since Freud's time, has recently been recognized, resulting in the therapist's use of additional resources so that he or she can understand and help the patient more effectively. In the 1950s and 1960s, Paula Heimann and Heinrich Racker, following on Freud's own observations, made important contributions to the study of the countertransference, considerably enlarging upon the concept and re-evaluating the nature of the psychoanalytic therapeutic relationship as a result.

Book Synopsis Los fundamentos de la técnica psicoanalítica (2A ED) by : R. Horacio Etchegoyen

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. R. Horacio Etchegoyen
Book Synopsis The Pioneers of Psychoanalysis in South America by : Nydia Lisman-Pieczanski
Download or read book The Pioneers of Psychoanalysis in South America written by Nydia Lisman-Pieczanski and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortly before and during World War II many European psychoanalysts found refuge in South America, concentrated in Buenos Aires. Here, together with local professionals, they created a strong, creative and productive psychoanalytic movement that in turn gave birth to theoretical and clinical contributions that transformed psychoanalysis, psychology, medicine and culture in South America. The Pioneers of Psychoanalysis in South America is a collection of those pioneers’ papers, and introduces the reader to a body of ideas and advancements, many of which have had limited and piecemeal exposure within the psychoanalytic community in the rest of the world until now. The editors Nydia Lisman-Pieczanski and Alberto Pieczanski present original papers and essays, many of which have never before been published in English; those that have been translated were rarely presented in context. Each one of the chapters is accompanied by a scholarly introduction written by psychoanalysts, many of whom personally knew the pioneers and their oeuvres in depth, tracing the roots of their ideas in the European analytic schools. The Pioneers of Psychoanalysis in South America is divided into six main sections: Psychoanalytic process Psychoanalytic technique Metapsychology Psychoanalysis of children Culture and society Psychosomatic medicine. Nydia Lisman-Pieczanski and Alberto Pieczanski provide a coherent guide to the seminal ideas and practices of the South American psychoanalysts who have made major theoretical and clinical contributions to the advancement of the psychoanalytic discipline. The chapters present the material in a way that is accessible to psychoanalysts from across the globe and will enable them to incorporate the ideas and practices outlined here into their everyday psychoanalytic work. It will also be of interest to psychoanalytic psychotherapists, academics interested in the history and development of psychoanalytic ideas and psychoanalysis, and advanced students. Book Synopsis Psychoanalytic Practice by : Helmut Thomä
Download or read book Psychoanalytic Practice written by Helmut Thomä and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are pleased to present the second volume of our study on Psychoana lytic Practice, which we entitle Clinical Studies. Together, the two volumes fulfill the functions usually expected of a textbook on theory and tech nique. In fact, some reviewers have asked why such a title was not cho sen. One of the reasons for our narrower choice was that our primary concern is focused on those aspects of psychoanalytic theory that are relevant to treatment. The first volume, entitled Principles, has evoked much interest within and outside the professional community, creating high expectations to ward its clinical counterpart. After all, psychoanalytic principles must demonstrate their value and efficacy in treatment, i. e., in achieving changes in symptoms and their underlying structures. This is apparent in the clinical studies contained in this book, and in the process of compil ing them the senior author has had the opportunity to take stock of his long professional career.
Book Synopsis Developmental Ruptures by : Anna Maria Nicolò
Download or read book Developmental Ruptures written by Anna Maria Nicolò and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-29 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book questions the diagnostic categories applied to adolescents from a developmental viewpoint, putting forth an alternative perspective for assessment that considers prognostic and risk indicators. Going beyond the classification of adult psychopathology, Anna Maria Nicolò presents a multidimensional approach to the adolescent mind that explores its complexities through a clinical lens and accompanying theoretical prism. Often, crises in adolescence might well mark the onset of a psychotic process that does not respect phase-specific tasks. Yet in other cases, such developmental ruptures are the opportunity for a positive reorganisation of personality. In this way, adolescence may highlight latent childhood functioning or allow for new integrations. Therefore, accurate diagnosis and early intervention are necessary to enable the developmental reorganisation of both the patient and the family. Drawing on clinical case material, this book provides readers with the practical and theoretical tools to intervene in developmental ruptures. Developmental Ruptures will appeal to psychoanalysts, psychiatrists, and developmental psychologists, as well as to people working with psychotic onset and crises emerging particularly at the outset of puberty or young adulthood.
