Book Synopsis The Spanish Fiscal Transition by : Sara Torregrosa Hetland
Download or read book The Spanish Fiscal Transition written by Sara Torregrosa Hetland and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-18 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an analysis of the process and outcomes of the tax reform, with a focus on progressivity, redistribution, and inequality. Between 1977 and 1986, Spain underwent a comprehensive tax reform which shaped its fiscal system until today. It was made in connection with the transition to democracy and indeed was understood as a fundamental part of the political change. The book situates the reform both within Spanish history and international trends in tax systems and connects it to the expansion of the welfare state and regional decentralization in Spain. The analysis reveals that the tax system failed to attain progressivity, and significant levels of fraud had a noticeable impact on inequality. Because of this, fiscal redistribution remained limited. In the new political economy of the second globalization, late democratic and fiscal transitioners were unable to emulate the path of the welfare state forerunners.

Book Synopsis The Three Pillars of Wisdom? by : Arno Tausch
Download or read book The Three Pillars of Wisdom? written by Arno Tausch and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since the days of German Imperial Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ideas of social security and the capitalist state have been closely connected with each other. Radical moves to change the balance, established by the public pension systems, require closer attention not only of the international social policy debate, but also of the world systems research community. This volume strives to close this gap. It is intended to bring together two discussion strings -- the world systems debate and the pension reform debate -- that have rarely met each other in the past. World Bank pension funds will become a major force in the capitalist world economy and will substantially transform the nature of the capitalist system over the coming years.

Book Synopsis Finding Solutions for a Post-Crisis Society by : Teresa Torres-Coronas

This book was released on 2015-12-28 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2007 and the economic meltdown caused by the financial crisis, our societies have been evolving in different ways. New political movements have emerged in Southern Europe and new social movements in pursuit of common concerns are playing a more active role in our daily lives. In a parallel way, after the failure to predict the financial crisis, economist and social science researchers seek fresh thinking and new models that can better explain this new reality. Regulations are of critical importance in shaping the welfare of economies and society. Thus, core legal disciplines are exploring the effects of the financial crisis on social rights, labour market regulations, and civil, common law or international law, among others. With no doubt, the economic crisis has deeply impacted our economic, social, political and legal environment. During the last decade, researchers from a wide range of disciplines have been looking for solutions. Now it is time make a side stop on the way and to gather results. The 1rst International SBRLab Conference, Finding solutions for a post-crisis society, is organized by the Social and Business Research Lab (SBRLab), Universitat Rovira i Virgili. It is as an international and virtual meeting point of interdisciplinary research and researchers. The purpose of this international conference is to bring together researchers from management, economics, political, social and legal disciplines in order to present and discuss new trends in their respective fields.

This volume houses a set of remarkable papers that present information on the social security systems, and labor force participation patterns, in Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. "This book is highly recommended for the serious student of retirement age trends and social security old-age pension policies of industrial nations in a cross-national context." Martin B. Tracy, Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare “A path-breaking public-policy study. The authors consistently use a new methodology to evaluate the consequences of retirement systems on the behavior of older workers in eleven industrialized countries. In doing so, the book passes a major test of any conference volume the whole greatly exceeds the sum of its parts. This book without question provides the most consistent cross-national analyses of the work disincentives of retirement programs ever produces. Moreover it will serve as the model for all future efforts of this kind.” Journal of Economics
