Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION : La qualité de vie au travail est aujourd'hui un enjeu majeur de notre société. Depuis 2016, une stratégie nationale de qualité de vie au travail des soignants a été lancée. Qu'en est-il de la qualité de vie des urgentistes dans la région Centre Val de Loire ? L'objectif premier est de faire un état des lieux de la profession. Dans un deuxième temps, nous avons comparé les données selon 3 facteurs : l'âge, le sexe et le centre d'activité. METHODE : Un questionnaire standardisé (SATIN 3.0) sur la santé et le bien-être au travail a été envoyé aux services d'urgences de la région Centre Val de Loire de décembre 2018 à Juin 2019. Le questionnaire comprend 47 questions. Les réponses aux questions sont regroupées sous forme de score : un score proche de 1 indique le mécontentement, un score proche de 5 indique un état de satisfaction. La population concernée était les urgentistes en poste dans un service d'urgences adulte. RESULTATS : 92 médecins urgentistes ont répondu, 4 ont été exclus. Les résultats montrent un score moyen de santé globale à 3.30 sur 5 avec le score le plus bas concernant le score de stress perçu qui s'élève à 3.08 sur 5. Plusieurs scores bas sont à souligner : le score de capacité ressentie (2.79 sur 5), le score moyen de l'exigence de travail (2.30 sur 5) ainsi que l'environnement physique de travail (3.28 sur 5). Fait rassurant, les médecins urgentistes de la région Centre ont une appréciation globalement élevée de leur travail (4.20/5) et de leur activité (4.10/5). Il existe plusieurs différences significatives selon les centres d'activité et l'âge des médecins urgentistes. DISCUSSION : Nous comparons ces résultats avec des populations de travailleurs d'une structure de soins gériatriques et d'une entreprise de bâtiment public. Les scores sont équivalents ou plus bas chez les médecins urgentistes. CONCLUSION : Cette étude montre une qualité de vie au travail moyennement satisfaisante. Les secteurs de l'environnement et du stress perçu au travail sont des points à faire évoluer et constituent des pistes d'amélioration.

As one of 14 pilots shot down or experience mechanical failure in the ensuing battle, he parachuted into the sea 18 km from land, 100 km southwest of Darwin in the Fogg Bay area. He reached the shore in a dinghy. For the next 15 days he trudged through inhospitable country in a futile attempt to return to Strauss airbase. What should have been a few days walk turned into his worst possible nightmare as he stumbled aimlessly through mosquito and crocodile infested swamps. "It was almost six days I'd been without sleep, apart from a short period of unconsciousness and those few moments before I fell out of that tree," he said. " I became demented by the cavalcade of mosquitoes and hallucinating badly". His experience was only to worsen - he waded halfway across a tidal river to be confronted by a large saltie. Darwin historian John Haslett help Stagg map the original route by retracing his steps, even managing to relocate an American Kittyhawk Stagg found crashed in the middle of nowhere.
