Download or read book Tome 1 Philosophie du langage, Logique philosophique / Volume 1 Philosophy of language, Philosophical logic written by Guttorm Fløistad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present publication is a continuation of two earlier series of chronicles, Philosophy in the Mid-Century (Firenze 1958/59) and Contemporary Philosophy (Firenze 1968), edited by Raymond KJibansky. As with the earlier series the present chronicles purport to give a survey of significant trends in contemporary philosophi cal discussion. The time space covered by the present series is (approximately) 1966-1978. The need for such surveys has, I believe, increased rather than decreased over the last years. The philosophical scene appears, for various reasons, more complex than ever before. The continuing process of specialization in most branches, the emergence of new schools of thought, particularly in philosophical logic and the philosophy of language, the convergence of interest (though not necessarily of opinion) of different traditions upon certain prob lems, and the increasing attention being paid to the history of philosophy in discussions of contemporary problems are the most important contributory factors. Surveys of the present kind are a valuable source of knowledge of this complexity and may as such be an assistance in renewing the understanding of one's own philosophical problems. The surveys, it is to be hoped, may also help to strengthen the Socratic element of modem philosophy, the dialogue or Kommu nikationsgemeinschajt. So far, four volumes have been prepared for the new series. The present chronicles in the Philosophy of Language and Philosophi cal Logic (Vol. I), are followed by chronicles in the Philosophy of Science (Vol. II), and Philosophy of Action (Vol.

Book Synopsis Leibniz, Humboldt, and the Origins of Comparativism by : Tullio De Mauro
Download or read book Leibniz, Humboldt, and the Origins of Comparativism written by Tullio De Mauro and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1990 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both Leibniz and Humboldt are scholars in whose work we find a passionate interest in the history and development of languages combined with a strong theoretical commitment. Linking their names to linguistic comparativism draws attention to the contribution these scholars have made to the history of comparativism and also promotes discussion of the relationship of theory and practice in linguistic research in more general terms. In September 1986, a conference on Leibniz, Humboldt and the Origins of Comparativism' was held in Rome. The papers included in this volume are revised versions of the papers presented at the conference.
Book Synopsis Language, Meaning, Interpretation by : Guttorm Fløistad
Download or read book Language, Meaning, Interpretation written by Guttorm Fløistad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-07 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophy of logic and language, and of meaning and communication are central to this volume. The discussion of these issues involves analytical approaches, including semantics and semiotics, philosophy of science, mathematical logic, phenomenology, hermeneutics and some aspects of philosophical anthropology and aesthetics. Philosophy of the Absolute also belongs to this broad repertoire of philosophical problems and disciplines. A number of problems and viewpoints derive from the metaphysical system; any relativistic view on ethical values, for instance, makes sense in relation to some absolute. Metaphysical system building may have come to an end, but after all it belongs to philosophy to remind us of our past.
Book Synopsis The Languages of Politics/La politique et ses langages Volume 2 by : Marta Degani
Download or read book The Languages of Politics/La politique et ses langages Volume 2 written by Marta Degani and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-14 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Languages of Politics/La politique et ses langages provides a multifaceted view of major approaches to the study of political discourse from an interdisciplinary perspective. To date, most contributions to the analysis of political discourse have come from the fields of rhetoric, (critical) discourse analysis, cognitive linguistics, pragmatics, lexicology, lexicography, and, more recently, multimodal discourse analysis. The papers in this volume build their investigations on these perspectives, and provide new and diversified insights into this vast area of research. Besides considering multiple approaches, the book also adds to the current debate on the languages of politics by combining a range of theoretical and methodological considerations, and by featuring contributions in both English and French.

Download or read book Pfänder-Studien written by E. Spiegelberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1982-07-31 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Linguistics and Philosophy by : R. Harré
Download or read book Linguistics and Philosophy written by R. Harré and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As hopes that generative linguistics might solve philosophical problems about the mind give way to disillusionment, old problems concerning the relationship between linguistics and philosophy survive unresolved. This collection surveys the historical engagement between the two, and opens up avenues for further reflection. In Part 1 two contrasting views are presented of the interface nowadays called 'philosophy of linguistics'. Part 2 gives a detailed historical survey of the engagement of analytic philosophy with linguistic problems during the present century, and sees the imposition by philosophers of an 'exploratory' model of thinking as a major challenge to the discipline of linguistics. Part 3 poses the problem of whether linguistics is dedicated to describing independently existing linguistic structures or to imposing its own structures on linguistic phenomena. In Part 4 Harris points out some similarities in the way an eminent linguist and an eminent philosopher invoke the analogy between languages and games; while Taylor analyses the rationale of our metalinguistic claims and their relationship to linguistic theorizing. Providing a wide range of views and ideas this book will be of interest to all those interested and involved in the interface of philosophy and linguistics.

Download or read book Leibniz et les puissances du langage written by Dominique Berlioz and published by Vrin. This book was released on 2005 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
