Book excerpt: This manual will help oral implantologists to understand the principles that underlie the use of basal implants as a means to provide simple solutions to complex and highly demanding clinical situations without the need for prior bone grafting. It will also serve as a richly illustrated practical guide to application of the technique. The book is in three parts, the first of which discusses basic principles and related themes, including osteogenesis, osseointegration, cortical anchorage stability, biomechanics, surgical techniques, and basal implant prosthodontics. Step-by-step guidance is then offered on the application of these principles, focusing on operating techniques, 3D treatment planning, transitional and final screw-secured prostheses, and postoperative follow-up. The third part of the book addresses a wide range of clinical situations that can be treated by basal implantology, with particular attention to the treatment of high, thin alveolar ridges and the atrophic maxilla and mandible and to the correction of previous implant failures, as well as complications and postimplantation neuropathies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

With the broadening of treatment options and an increasing number of clinicians that provide implant therapy, it is important to ensure that the treatment methods used meet the highest clinical standards. The ITI Treatment Guide series is a compendium of evidence-based implant-therapy techniques in daily practice. Written by renowned clinicians and supported by contributions from expert practitioners, the ITI Treatment Guides provide a comprehensive overview of the various indicated treatment options. The management of different clinical situations is discussed with an emphasis on sound diagnostics, evidence-based treatment concepts, and predictable treatment outcomes with minimal risk to the patient. Volume 13 of the ITI Treatment Guide series provides clinicians with the latest evidence-based information on the prevention and management of peri-implant diseases. This information is based in part on the proceedings of the 6th ITI Consensus Conference held in Amsterdam in 2018, as well as on a review of the current literature. Seventeen clinical cases presented by experienced clinicians from all over the world illustrate the diagnosis and treatment of peri-implant diseases.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, leading experts from around the world present the latest knowledge on the risk factors for peri-implant diseases and also examine the prevalence, etiology, and treatment strategy. Reports have suggested that a variety of risk factors, including poor oral hygiene, a history of periodontitis, diabetes, smoking, lack of keratinized mucosa, and implant surface topography, are associated with these diseases. Periodontally compromised patients who do not adhere completely to the supportive periodontal therapy have been found to present a higher implant failure rate, and several studies have shown that periodontal pathogens can translocate from periodontally involved teeth to the peri-implant sulci in partially dentate patients, highlighting the importance of periodontal treatment of the residual dentition prior to placement of dental implants. Recently a new concept was proposed as intraindividual variation exists in core microbiota in peri-implantitis and periodontitis. In elucidating the strength of association of peri-implant diseases with all of the risk factors identified to date, the book will be of interest to practitioners and other professionals in the field.
