Book Synopsis Balthasar and Anxiety by : John R. Cihak
Download or read book Balthasar and Anxiety written by John R. Cihak and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study offers a theological response to the problem of anxiety from the point of view of Hans Urs von Balthasar. It is a systematic presentation, analysis and development of Balthasar's original theology of anxiety found in his only work on the subject, Der Christ und die Angst. The study takes a thematic approach based upon the four types of analysis found in Der Christ und die Angst: phenomenological, anthropological, theological and ecclesial. These four approaches to the topic correspond to the phenomenon, origins, redemption and transformation of anxiety. Through this thematic approach, Balthasar's thought is examined in relation to some of the important figures on anxiety. The phenomenon of anxiety is presented in relation to modern psychiatry. The examination of anxiety's origins places him in dialogue with Kierkegaard on anxiety from discursive reasoning and Freud on anxiety from ego-consciousness. The redemption of anxiety places Balthasar in relation to Aquinas in order to clarify Balthasar's interpretation and to show its significance in the theological tradition. The transformation of anxiety places our author in dialogue with Luther on the shape of anxiety in the Christian life. The final chapter begins to unravel the construct of anxiety, with a brief exploration of how it is transformed in the Church according to Balthasar, something he had never explicitly developed. The influence of Bernanos on Balthasar's thought is felt throughout the study. The entire study is framed by the two Gardens wherein transpire the most significant events concerning anxiety for Balthasar: the Garden of Eden and the Garden of Gethsemane.

Book Synopsis The Mystery and the World by : Maria Clara Bingemer
Download or read book The Mystery and the World written by Maria Clara Bingemer and published by Lutterworth Press. This book was released on 2017-02-23 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Mystery and the World, Maria Clara Bingemer explores how the place of religion in society has dramatically shifted since the Enlightenment. The modern era is characterised by a major change in humanity's fundamental desires that means that reason has taken the place of faith. Human beings, in their ongoing search for a scientific understanding of the world, have drifted away from seeking any essence of transcendence in their lives. Bingemer examines this transition and how, especially inthe postmodern era, it has led to technology and superficial happiness becoming all-important as opposed to the more sacred sense of contentment that governed us for centuries prior to the Enlightenment. In her discussion, however, Bingemer demonstrates that we as humans have not lost our innate desire to believe in a higher power and that, even in our world of instant satisfaction, we still need to fill the void left by religion. Through well-researched analysis of the modern era and discussion of some of the mystics of more recent times, she reveals to readers how our religious belief, whilst changed, is not dead and is still an important aspect of our existence.
Book Synopsis After the Spirit by : Eugene F. Rogers
Download or read book After the Spirit written by Eugene F. Rogers and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2005-07-26 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Eastern Christian tradition, by contrast, has usually linked the Holy Spirit with holy places, holy people, and holy things. Weaving together a tapestry of sources from this tradition, Rogers locates the Spirit in the Gospel stories of the annunciation, Jesus' baptism, the transfiguration, and the resurrection. These stories offer illuminating glimpses into both the Spirit's connection with the tangible world and the Spirit's distinctive place in relation to the other persons of the Trinity."--BOOK JACKET.

Pesarchick and published by Gregorian Biblical BookShop. This book was released on 2000 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was the conviction of the Swiss theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar (1905-1988) that the reservation of priestly ordination to men is intrinsically connected to the significance of the incarnation of Christ as a male. Von Balthasar was convinced that the incarnation of the eternal Son as male plays an intrinsic role in his economic mission. The present study is an attempt to understand the teaching of the Magisterium reserving priestly ordination to men by an exposition and analysis of the revelatory significance of the incarnation of Christ as male, and the relation of his maleness to priestly ordination according to the theology of von Balthasar.

Book Synopsis Image, Art and Virtuality by : Roberto Diodato
Download or read book Image, Art and Virtuality written by Roberto Diodato and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-01 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the ontological state of relations in a unique way. Starting with the notion of system, it shows that the system can be understood as a relational structure, and that relations can be assessed within themselves, with no need to transform relations in elements. “Relations” are understood in contrast to “relational property”: without a relation there is no identity, therefore no existence. What allows us to do that without hypostatizing the relation, and without immediately taking it simply as a causal relation, can be better grasped, possibly, in reference to a few entities that make best display of their systemic nature, for example images, works of art, and virtual bodies. This book shows how virtual bodies are ontological hybrids representing a type of entity that has never appeared in the world before. This entity becomes a phenomenon in interactivity and evades the dichotomy between “external” and “internal”; it is neither a cognitive product of the consciousness, nor an image of the mind. The user is well aware of experiencing anotherreality, also in the sense of a paradoxical reduplication of perceptual synthesis. The virtual body-environment is therefore simultaneously external and internal, with virtual bodies-environments to be seen as artificial windows to an intermediary world. In this intermediary world, the space itself is the result of interactivity; the world takes place in the sense or feeling of immersion experienced by the user; and the body, perceived as “other”, takes upon itself the sense of its reality, of its effectiveness, as an imaginary and pathic incision, as a production of desire and emotion, to the point that the feeling of reality conveyed by a virtual environment will rely significantly on how this environment produces emotions in the users.

Download or read book Love Alone written by Hans Urs Von Balthasar and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 1970-01-01 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What differentiates Christianity from other religions? Key to Christian self-understanding is the recognition of the importance and glorification of divine love. In this sketch Balthasar presents a theological aesthetic that covers both the study of perception and the self-expression of divine glory. Christian belief is thus re-assessed through the lens which sees the glory of God's love."--
