Book Synopsis Catholicism and Fascism in Europe 1918 - 1945 by : Jan Nelis
Download or read book Catholicism and Fascism in Europe 1918 - 1945 written by Jan Nelis and published by Georg Olms Verlag. This book was released on 2015-05-01 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The papers presented in this volume analyse the many ways in which the Vatican, national Churches and individual catholics dealt with the rise of the extreme right in Europe throughout the 1920s, 1930s and early 1940s, from the end of the First World War, arguably one of the main catalysts of European interwar fascism, to the conclusion and immediate aftermath of the Second World War. While a number of papers focus primarily on theoretical, methodological issues pertaining to the book’s general theme, the majority of papers focus on either a country or region where a fascist movement or regime flourished between the wars and during the Second World War, and where there was a significant catholic presence in society. The various chapters cover almost the entire European continent – an endeavour that is unprecedented –, and they explore a wide range of relevant contexts and methodologies, thus further contributing to the general development of an interpretive ‘cluster’ model that incorporates a series of investigative matrixes, and that will hopefully inspire future research.

Book Synopsis L'impero di Roma by : Theodor Mommsen
Download or read book L'impero di Roma written by Theodor Mommsen and published by Il Saggiatore. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Antonio Gramsci and the Ancient World by : Emilio Zucchetti
Download or read book Antonio Gramsci and the Ancient World written by Emilio Zucchetti and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antonio Gramsci and the Ancient World explores the relationship between the work of the Italian Marxist thinker Antonio Gramsci and the study of classical antiquity. The collection of essays engages with Greek and Roman history, literature, society, and culture, offering a range of perspectives and approaches building on Gramsci’s theoretical insights, especially from his Prison Notebooks. The volume investigates both Gramsci’s understanding and reception of the ancient world, including his use of ancient sources and modern historiography, and the viability of applying some of his key theoretical insights to the study of Greek and Roman history and literature. The chapters deal with the ideas of hegemony, passive revolution, Caesarism, and the role of intellectuals in society, offering a complex and diverse exploration of this intersection. With its fascinating mixture of topics, this volume will be of great interest to students and scholars of classics, ancient history, classical reception studies, Marxism and history, and those studying Antonio Gramsci’s works in particular.
