This book was released on 2006-03-16 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the state-of-the-art in tackling differential equations using advanced methods and software tools of symbolic computation. It focuses on the symbolic-computational aspects of three kinds of fundamental problems in differential equations: transforming the equations, solving the equations, and studying the structure and properties of their solutions.

This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ordinary differential control thPory (the classical theory) studies input/output re lations defined by systems of ordinary differential equations (ODE). The various con cepts that can be introduced (controllability, observability, invertibility, etc. ) must be tested on formal objects (matrices, vector fields, etc. ) by means of formal operations (multiplication, bracket, rank, etc. ), but without appealing to the explicit integration (search for trajectories, etc. ) of the given ODE. Many partial results have been re cently unified by means of new formal methods coming from differential geometry and differential algebra. However, certain problems (invariance, equivalence, linearization, etc. ) naturally lead to systems of partial differential equations (PDE). More generally, partial differential control theory studies input/output relations defined by systems of PDE (mechanics, thermodynamics, hydrodynamics, plasma physics, robotics, etc. ). One of the aims of this book is to extend the preceding con cepts to this new situation, where, of course, functional analysis and/or a dynamical system approach cannot be used. A link will be exhibited between this domain of applied mathematics and the famous 'Backlund problem', existing in the study of solitary waves or solitons. In particular, we shall show how the methods of differ ential elimination presented here will allow us to determine compatibility conditions on input and/or output as a better understanding of the foundations of control the ory. At the same time we shall unify differential geometry and differential algebra in a new framework, called differential algebraic geometry.

Book Synopsis Two Algebraic Byways from Differential Equations: Gröbner Bases and Quivers by : Kenji Iohara
Download or read book Two Algebraic Byways from Differential Equations: Gröbner Bases and Quivers written by Kenji Iohara and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume presents a fascinating collection of lecture notes focusing on differential equations from two viewpoints: formal calculus (through the theory of Gröbner bases) and geometry (via quiver theory). Gröbner bases serve as effective models for computation in algebras of various types. Although the theory of Gröbner bases was developed in the second half of the 20th century, many works on computational methods in algebra were published well before the introduction of the modern algebraic language. Since then, new algorithms have been developed and the theory itself has greatly expanded. In comparison, diagrammatic methods in representation theory are relatively new, with the quiver varieties only being introduced – with big impact – in the 1990s. Divided into two parts, the book first discusses the theory of Gröbner bases in their commutative and noncommutative contexts, with a focus on algorithmic aspects and applications of Gröbner bases to analysis on systems of partial differential equations, effective analysis on rings of differential operators, and homological algebra. It then introduces representations of quivers, quiver varieties and their applications to the moduli spaces of meromorphic connections on the complex projective line. While no particular reader background is assumed, the book is intended for graduate students in mathematics, engineering and related fields, as well as researchers and scholars.

Book Synopsis Differential Systems by : Joseph Miller Thomas
Download or read book Differential Systems written by Joseph Miller Thomas and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1937-12-31 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main goal of this book is to present the theory of systems of partial differential equations and the theory of Pfaffian systems so as to exhibit clearly the relations between them. In presenting the theory of Pfaffian systems, the author develops, in detail, the theories of Grassmann algebras and rings with differentiation. In particular, following Grassmann and E. Cartan, he introduces and freely uses what is now known as a ring of differential forms with functional coefficients. In presenting the theory of systems of partial differential equations, the author concentrates on the existence of solutions and methods of approximating them, rather than on their properties. The relations and similarities of two theories are displayed through the systematic use of various versions of the elimination method.
Book Synopsis Selected Works of Wen-Tsun Wu by : Wen-tsun Wu
Download or read book Selected Works of Wen-Tsun Wu written by Wen-tsun Wu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book presents all the major works of Professor Wen-Tsun Wu, a widely respected Chinese mathematician who has made great contributions in the fields of topology and computer mathematics throughout his research career. The book covers Wu's papers from 1948 to 2005 and provides a comprehensive overview of his major achievements in algebraic topology, computer mathematics, and history of ancient Chinese mathematics. In algebraic topology, he discovered Wu classes and Wu formulas for Stiefel-Whitney classes of sphere bundles or differential manifolds, established an imbedding theory with an application to the layout problem of integrated circuits, and introduced the I*-functors which turned the "rational homotopy theory" created by D Sullivan into algorithmic form. In computer mathematics, he discovered Wu's method of mechanical theorem proving by means of computers, which has been applied to prove and even discover on the computers hundreds of non-trivial theorems in various kinds of elementary and differential geometries. He also discovered a new effective method of polynomial equations solving, which has been used to solve problems raised from the fields of robotics and mechanisms, CAGD, computer vision, theoretic physics, celestial mechanics, and chemical equilibrium computation.
